Architecture
The BMC PATROL for Nutanix Knowledge Module (KM) enables the BMC PATROL Agent to discover and monitor the Nutanix infrastructure. The KM collects key performance and availability metrics for Nutanix clusters, hosts, VMs, and storage pools and streams them to BMC Helix Operations Management.
The following image shows the architecture of BMC PATROL for Nutanix:

The following procedure explains how the KM works to monitor the Nutanix infrastructure:
- The administrator creates a monitor policy in BMC Helix Operations Management.
The policy includes the following configurations:- The Nutanix Prism Central endpoint details
- REST API authentication credentials
- Metric collection configuration
- Polling intervals for inventory and performance data
The BMC Helix Operations Management pushes the monitor policy to the PATROL Agent on the target system. The PATROL Agent receives the monitor policy. Based on this policy, the Nutanix KM starts the Nutanix Collector to begin monitoring. The Nutanix Collector establishes a connection with Prism Central by using REST API authentication. The Nutanix Collector uses the Prism v3/v4 APIs, depending on availability.
Prism Central provides access to the Nutanix infrastructure data. After establishing the connection with Prism Central, the collector discovers all Nutanix entities that are exposed by Prism Central, including clusters, hosts, virtual machines, and storage pools. The KM creates corresponding PATROL Agent application instances for the discovered entities.
The Nutanix collector begins periodic performance data collection, fetching key metrics related to utilization, latency, IOPS, storage use, CPU and memory consumption, and network activity across clusters, hosts, VMs, and storage pools. The PATROL Agent processes the collected metrics. The metrics are mapped to the PATROL namespaces and application classes.
The PATROL Agent streams the processed metrics to BMC Helix Operations Management. The BMC Helix Operations Management uses this data to create dashboards, generate alerts, and perform anomaly detection.
