Status of DFS Service (DfsServiceStatus)

Monitors whether or not the Distributed File System (DFS) service is running. This is done by querying the status of the service via the service control manager routines. Alarms whenever the DFS server is not running.

Note

The Status of DFS Service attribute in BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management is referred as the DfsServiceStatus parameter in BMC PATROL.

Recommendations
If this parameter displays an alarm:

  1. View the services running on your system.
  2. Look at the Status column for the DFS service to find out if the status is "Started."
  3. If the status is not "Started," attempt to start the service.
  4. If the service does not start, start the Event Viewer and examine the System Event Log. The System Event Log contains entries for services that fail to start.
  5. Find and examine the entry for the DFS service that failed to start. The entry may contain information that indicates why the service did not start.
  6. Try to correct the problem based on the information found in the Event Log entry.
  7. Attempt to start the service again.

If you cannot get the DFS service to start, consider rebooting your system. If rebooting does not help, contact Microsoft Support: http://support.microsoft.com/directory/
