Configuring remote monitoring of Microsoft Hyper-V in TrueSight


This topic provides information about configuring Microsoft Hyper-V monitor type in the Central Monitoring Administration and TrueSight console.

Configuration details

To configure the KM, set the following preferences on the Add Monitoring Configuration window.

Provide the following details

Hyper-V Host Details

Click Add to add the Hyper-V host configurations.

Monitoring Mode

Select the monitoring mode.

  • Cluster
  • Standalone

Hyper-V Server

Enter the Hyper-V cluster name or a standalone Hyper-V host name.

User Credentials

User Name

Enter the user name to connect to the Hyper-V.

Password

Enter the password.

Confirm Password

Re-enter the password for confirmation.

Authentication Type

Select the authentication type that will be used for connection:

  • Negotiate
  • Kerberos

Protocol

Select the type of connection protocol. By default, this value is set to HTTP.

  • HTTP
  • HTTPS

Port

Enter the WinRM port number that will be used for communicating with the Hyper-V Server. Default port number is 5985.

Device Hostname lookup order

Define the lookup order for the hostname of the virtual machine. Virtual Machine devices are created based on the selected option.

Valid values are:

  • DNSNAME, VMNAME: The KM sets the hostname variable as the DNS name of the virtual machine. If the DNS name is not available, the KM sets the hostname variable as the virtual machine name.
  • DNSNAME: The KM sets the hostname variable as the DNS name of the virtual machine. If the DNS name of the virtual machine is not available, the hostname is set to an empty string.
  • VMNAME: The KM sets the hostname variable as the virtual machine name. 

Filtering Configuration

Virtual Machine Name Filter

Enter the virtual machine name or a regular expression to include or exclude the virtual machines from monitoring. You can specify multiple regular expressions by using pipe ( | ) as a separator.

For example:

  • ab.*
  • abc.*|pqr.*
  • ^admiring$

Virtual Machine Name Filter Type

Select whether to include or exclude the virtual machines from monitoring.

Enable Debug

Select this check box to enable the KM debug. The log files are located at %PATROL_HOME%\hrm\log directory on the PATROL Agent server.

This option is disabled by default (check box cleared).
