PATROL KM for Microsoft Cluster Server
The PATROL Knowledge Module (KM) for Microsoft Cluster Server component monitors, analyzes, and manages activities of a Microsoft server cluster. This KM contains knowledge in the form of command descriptions, application classes, parameters, and recovery actions that PATROL uses to monitor Microsoft Cluster Server instances.
Using this KM, you can monitor the following cluster features:
- All clusters in a domain (only available when the agent is outside of the cluster)
- Individual clusters
- Cluster communication networks
- Cluster network interfaces
- Cluster nodes
- Cluster objects and resources
- Cluster groups
- Workload data
- Group resources
- Quorum device
PATROL KM for Cluster Server can be configured to operate in one the following ways:
- Outside of the cluster on a cluster-level agent that acts as a master agent
With this configuration, the following statements apply:- The cluster-level agent connects to all cluster nodes.
- You can use the same cluster-level agent for each cluster in a domain.
- PATROL configuration and history files are maintained outside of the cluster.
- This configuration requires another server outside the cluster.
- Inside the cluster on a cluster-level agent
With this configuration, the following statements apply:- Every local PATROL agent on a cluster node acts as a cluster-level agent, but only the PATROL agent on the quorum-owning node actively monitors the cluster.
- This configuration inherits the failover capability of Microsoft Cluster Server.
- The local agent running on the quorum owner communicates with the local agents on other cluster nodes to collect data.
- The PATROL configuration and history files are stored on a local drive and, therefore, they are not shared with the new quorum owner after a Cluster Group failover.
- The KM automatically replicates the KM configuration to other nodes.
- The KM can monitor only the underlying cluster; it cannot monitor multiple clusters in this mode.
- This configuration does not require another server, and it is easier to install and configure.
