Time Difference From PDC (AdServerTimeDifference)

Monitors the time difference between the domain controller and the domain controller that holds the FSMO role primary domain controller emulator (referred to as the PDC).

  • If the local domain controller is the PDC for the domain, the time is checked against the PDC of the parent domain.
  • If the current domain is a root domain of the forest (that is, it has no parent), then the time difference is reported as zero.

Note

The Time Difference From PDC attribute in BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management is referred as the AdServerTimeDifference parameter in BMC PATROL.

Alarm data points are annotated with the following information:

  • The PDC that the time was checked against.
  • If the time service is not installed, a message indicating this is included.
  • The time provider type. If the provider type is NTP, the NTP server is listed as well.
  • If the type cannot be determined, a message stating that the type of time provider is not configured
  • If the local domain controller is the PDC of a root domain and the time provider type is NT5DS (sync with domain hierarchy), then a message indicating this.

The FRS Event ID 13548 is logged when the time settings for two replication partners differ by more than 30 minutes.

Recommendations
Confirm that the time zone and system clocks are correctly set on both computers. They must be within 30 minutes of each other, but preferably much closer.
