Logical Disk (NT_LOGICAL_DISKS)
Attributes (parameters)
The following attributes are available for this monitor type:
Name | Description | Unit | Default Performance Key Indicator (KPI) |
---|---|---|---|
Free Space (LDldFreeSpacePercent) | Displays the percentage of free space available on the selected logical disk drive. If the /PSX__P4WinSrvs/PWK__PKMforMSWinOS_config/LogicalDiskMonitoring/NonAggregateParamValue variable is set to 1, this parameter will not take the value of the mount points on that particular drive instance.Applications that write to drives with limited space can cause operating system stress and possible failures. This parameter contains a recovery action that automatically clears the temp directory when LdldFreeSpacePercent enters an alarm state. To enable and configure this recovery action, see Configuring the recovery action that clears the temp directory. Recommendations For drives that are 1 gigabyte (GB) or smaller: If this parameter falls below 5%, you must take some action to provide more free disk space.
For drives larger than 1 GB: 5% of your disk may be large enough for your needs; therefore, it may be more meaningful to be notified when the number of free megabytes falls below a limit that you determine. Consider using the LDldFreeMegabytes (percentage of free megabytes on the logical disk) parameter rather than LdldFreeSpacePercent. | % | Yes |
Disk queue length (LDldDiskQueueLength) | Displays the number of requests outstanding on the disk, including requests currently in service. Recommendations If the number displayed is consistently high, there is a sustained load on your disk drive. If this number, minus the number of disk spindles, averages greater than 2, there may be a disk-related bottleneck. If one drive is more heavily loaded than the others are, you may want to move some of the most used files to other disks in the system to distribute the load more evenly. Thresholds for alarms and warnings No default thresholds have been set for this parameter. The Baselining Overview topic may help you determine appropriate settings for your system. | # | No |
Disk space used (LDldDiskSpaceUsed) | Displays the aggregate disk space used by the logical disk and all mount points. If the /PSX__P4WinSrvs/PWK__PKMforMSWinOS_config/LogicalDiskMonitoring/NonAggregateParamValue variable is set to 1, this parameter will not take the value of the mount points on that particular drive instance. | MB | No |
Busy disk time (LDldDiskTimePercent) | Displays the percentage of elapsed time that the selected disk drive is busy servicing read or write requests. Recommendations If you have multiple disks in your system, you may want to check this parameter for each volume of a server to see how the load is distributed across the system. If one drive has a considerably larger load than the others do, you may want to move some of the files to other disks in the system to distribute the load across disks. You should investigate a major swing in utilization since it can reveal problems. | % | Yes |
Free MB (LDldFreeMegabytes) | Displays the amount of unused space on the disk drive in megabytes (MB). If the /PSX__P4WinSrvs/PWK__PKMforMSWinOS_config/LogicalDiskMonitoring/NonAggregateParamValue variable is set to 1, this parameter will not take the value of the mount points on that particular drive instance. Applications that write to drives with limited space can cause operating system stress and possible failures. By default, PATROL takes no action when this parameter displays an alarm or warning. Recommendations For drives larger than 1 GB: If this parameter falls below the number of megabytes that you have chosen for your system, you should take some action to provide more free disk space.
For drives that are 1 gigabyte (GB) or smaller: Consider using the LDldFreeSpacePercent (percentage of free space on the logical disk) parameter rather than the LdldFreeMegabytes parameter. The LdldFreeSpacePercent parameter notifies you when its value falls below 10% (warning) and 5% (alarm). Thresholds for alarms and warnings No default thresholds have been set for this parameter. The Baselining Overview topic may help you determine appropriate settings for your system. | MB | No |
Disk idle time percent (LDldIdleTimePercent) | Displays the percentage of time that the disk was idle. | % | No |
