DNS (AD_AD_DNS)
Attributes (parameters)
The following attributes are available for this monitor type:
Name | Description | Unit | Default Performance Key Indicator (KPI) |
---|---|---|---|
DNS A Record Status (AdDnsARecordExists) | Determines if an A record matching the IP address of the domain controller is registered with the DNS server. The KM queries the default DNS servers of the local computer. This parameter issues an alarm and provides annotation if no A records are found. |
| Yes |
DNS Domain Controller LDAP SRV Record Status (AdDnsDcLdapSrvRecordExists) | Determines if an LDAP SRV (service) record matching the host name of the domain controller is registered with the DNS server. The KM make the following query to the default DNS server: _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.<fully qualified domain name> This parameter issues an alarm and provides annotation if an SRV record for the domain controller is not found. |
| Yes |
DNS Global Catalog LDAP SRV Record Status (AdDnsGcLdapSrvRecordExists) | Determines if an LDAP SRV (service) record matching the host name of the domain controller global catalog is registered with the DNS server. The KM makes the following query to the DNS server: ldap._tcp.gc._msdcs.<fully qualified forest root domain name> This parameter issues an alarm and provides annotation if an SRV record is not found. |
| No |
Invalid Name Server (NS) Record (AdDnsInvalidNsRecord) | Reports Invalid name server (NS) records and provides annotation about the problem. This parameter monitors the error Event ID 1546 in the DNS event log. The event source is DNS. The NS records identify the DNS server responsible (authoritative) for a zone. An NS record will be invalid if it contains a format error or the name of a server that is not part of the domain or the name of a server that is not authorized for any of the zones within the domain. |
| No |
RPC Failure (AdDnsRpcFailure) | Monitors the ability of the server to initiate a remote procedure call (RPC) . The parameter issue an alert if the DNS server could not initialize the RPC. This parameter monitors the error Event ID 5783 in the System event log. The event source is NETLOGON. The source server listed in the error message was unable to complete a remote procedure call (RPC) call to the destination server. Usually, this means that either the source server could not locate the server in DNS or the RPC interface on the destination server is not working. |
| No |
DNS Registration Failure (AdDnsRegistrationFailure) | Reports failures of a domain controller to register DNS records dynamically that advertise its availability as a domain controller. This parameter monitors the error Event IDs 5774 and 5775 and the warning Event ID 5781 in the System event log. The event source is NETLOGON. |
| No |
Zone Transfer Failures of Master DNS Server (AdDnsZoneTransferFailures) | Reports the number of failed zone transfers of the Master DNS server since the last collection cycle. | Failures | No |
