Monitoring AlwaysOn High Availability

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 has introduced a new high availability solution that improves the availability of servers or databases. This masks the effects of a hardware or software failure and maintains the availability of applications, so the downtime that the application or clients experience during failure is minimized. AlwaysOn Failure Cluster Instances and AlwaysOn Availability Groups are provided by the SQL Server for creating high availability for a server or database.

Discovery and collection of the AlwaysOn instances is being made by AlwaysOnColl collector. Microsoft provides dynamic management views and functions that can be used to monitor the AlwaysOn components. The Microsoft SQL Knowlegde Module collects the data from those dynamic management views and functions. Information regarding those dynamic management views and functions can be found on MSDN. The views requires VIEW ANY DEFINITION and VIEW SERVER STATE permissions.

AlwaysOn databases can be included or excluded from monitoring by using the include or exclude database feature. For more information, see Monitoring-databasesFor information about the application classes and their parameters, see Parameter table. For information about configurable variables, see Agent configuration variables.. For information about AlwaysOn High Availability icon hierarchy, see AlwaysOn High Availability icon hierarchy.
