Using the Set Database Auto-Discovery dialog box

The Set Database Auto-Discovery dialog box enables you to select specific databases for monitoring or automatically detect and monitor all databases. As shipped, PATROL for Microsoft SQL Server automatically detects and monitors all databases. For step-by-step instructions, see the following topics.

To monitor all databases automatically

By default, PATROL is set to automatically discover all databases; however, if you previously turned off Database Auto-Discovery, use this task to turn Database Auto-Discovery back on.

  1. Choose KM Admin > Setup/Configure KM > Set DB Auto-Discovery from the KM commands on the SQL Server pop-up menu.
  2. In the Set database auto-discovery field, click On.
  3. Click Accept to remove any previously selected databases when automatic discovery was turned off.
  4. Click Done.

For instructions about how to access the KM commands, see Accessing KM menu commands.

To select databases for monitoring

Use this task to select or deselect one or more databases for monitoring. Before you can select databases for monitoring, you must turn off database auto-discovery for the SQL Server.
The left portion of the screen displays databases that are available for monitoring. The right portion of the screen displays the databases that are monitored when Database Auto-Discovery is turned off.

  1. In the Set database auto-discovery field, click Off.
  2. Under If database auto-discovery is off section, select (highlight) the databases that you want to manually monitor from the Select the specific Databases to monitor list (left portion of the screen).
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click Accept.

The selected databases move to the right side of the screen. After the next polling cycle of the DbStructureColl standard collector parameter, PATROL displays MSSQL_SERVER_DB (Database) application instance icons for the selected databases.

To remove databases from the databases selected to monitor list

Use this task to deselect one or more databases from the Databases Selected to Monitor List.

  1. Select (highlight) the databases that you want to remove from the Databases Selected to Monitor list.
  2. Click Remove.
  3. Click Accept. The selected databases move to the left side of the screen.
  4. Click Done.

After the next polling cycle of the DbStructureColl standard collector parameter, PATROL deletes the MSSQL_SERVER_DB (Database) application instance icons for the databases you removed from the Databases Selected to Monitor list.

To stop monitoring databases

Use this task to stop the monitoring of all databases.

  1. In the Set database auto-discovery field, click Off.
  2. Select (highlight) all of the databases in the Databases Selected to Monitor list.
  3. Click Remove.
  4. Click Accept. The selected databases move to the left side of the screen, leaving the Databases Selected to Monitor list empty.
  5. Click Done.

After the next polling cycle of the DbStructureColl standard collector parameter, PATROL deletes all existing Database application instance icons.
