Using the Change OSQL.exe Path Used by PATROL dialog box

The OSQL.exe Path Used by PATROL menu command opens a dialog box where you can change the path to OSQL.exe used by PATROL to communicate with the SQL Server. The path entered into this dialog box changes only the path used by PATROL; it does not change the location of the path on the SQL Server.

Error
Warning

Entering an incorrect path can cause discovery to fail.

The following fields of information are found in this dialog box:

Field

Description

Date

The day, month, date, time (hh.mm.ss), and year that you opened this dialog box

Name of computer

The name of the computer where you opened this dialog box

You should use this dialog box only when PATROL cannot find the correct path to OSQL.exe.

PATROL generates a message that states that it cannot connect to OSQL.exe during discovery.

SQL Server Name

The name of the Microsoft SQL Server that you are monitoring

Windows Service Name

The name of the Windows service you are monitoring (see Services in the Control Panel)

Associated OSQL.exe Path

Enter path to OSQL.exe

Enter the correct path to the OSQL.exe for the Microsoft SQL Server that you are monitoring

The new OSQL.exe path will take effect the next time the KM is loaded by the PATROL agent.

The OSQL.exe path that you enter in this dialog box does not take effect when you select "Accept." It is saved and used as the correct path the next time you initiate PATROL for Microsoft SQL Server.

If the KM is downloaded to the PATROL Agent, you must break the connection with PATROL Agent and reconnect to PATROL Agent.

If the KM is preloaded, you must stop and restart PATROL Agent.

You can start and stop the PATROL Agent from

  • A command line prompt
  • A variety of PATROL components, depending on the platform

In the Windows environment, the PATROL Agent is listed as a service, and you can start and stop the PATROL Agent in the Services dialog box.
The default port number is 3181.
Please see the PATROL Agent Reference Manual for more information about starting and stopping the PATROL Agent.

Accept

Records and saves the OSQL.exe path you entered
