SQL Server Agent Log
This topic provides information about configuring the Microsoft SQL Server by using Central Monitoring Administration.
On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Solution and Monitoring Profile set to Microsoft SQL Server, and the Monitor Type set to SQL Server Agent Log, provide the following details:
Field | Description |

SQL Server instance name (RegEx) | Specify the name of the SQL Server instance that you want to configure for log monitoring. To discover all the instances enter .* in the field. Multiple configurations can be set. One for each server (or groups of servers), this field is used as a key field for the configuration list. Use the Add to List, Modify Selection, and Remove from List buttons for adding, modifying, or removing configurations. |
String Monitoring | |
Generate Warning or Alarm for | Select whether to generate alarm/warning on every match or only on the first match. |
Data collection threshold action | Select threshold level for general failure of the monitor collector. (ErrorLogColl) |
Warning Strings (Click to expand and provide the following configuration details) | |
Warning Label will be generated if any of String 1, 2, or 3 is matched. Multiple labels can be set using the Add to List, Modify Selection, and Remove from List buttons. | |
Add to List | Click this option for adding the various configuration information that you provided. Click this option for adding each of the configuration details that you specified, such that you see the warning details under List - Warning Strings at the end of the dialog box. |
Modify Selection | Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this option to modify details. |
Remove from List | Select the items added earlier and click this option to delete that item from the list of configured objects and the clear the details provided in the earlier fields. |
Alarm Strings (Click to expand and provide the following configuration details) | |
Alarm Label will be generated if any of String 1, 2 or 3 is matched. Multiple labels can be set using the Add to List, Modify Selection, and Remove from List buttons. | |
Add to List | Click this option for adding the various configuration information that you provided. Click this option for adding each of the configuration details that you specified, such that you see the alarm details under List - Alarm Strings at the end of the dialog box. |
Modify Selection | Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this option to modify details. |
Remove from List | Select the items added earlier and click this option to delete that item from the list of configured objects and the clear the details provided in the earlier fields. |
Strings to Exclude from Monitoring (Click to expand and provide the following configuration details) | |
Mask alarms and warnings if any of String 1, 2 or 3 is matched. Multiple masks can be set using the Add to List, Modify Selection, and Remove from List buttons. | |
Add to List | Click this option for adding the various configuration information that you provided. Click this option for adding each of the configuration details that you specified, such that you see the excluded string details under List - Strings To Exclude From Monitoring at the end of the dialog box. |
Modify Selection | Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this option to modify details. |
Remove from List | Select the items added earlier and click this option to delete that item from the list of configured objects and the clear the details provided in the earlier fields. |
Size Monitoring | |
Monitor file size | Select this check box if you want to monitor file size. |
File size threshold | Set the threshold value for File size (MB). If the value exceeds the specified range, the system will trigger an alarm or warning according to the action selected in the Threshold action field. |
Threshold action | Indicates whether the Threshold parameter is set to OK, warn, or alarm if agent log file size threshold monitoring is active and the log file crosses the user defined threshold. |
Autoreset | Select this check box if you want to automatically reset the size monitoring after the threshold is triggered. |
Free Disk Space Monitoring | |
Monitor free disk space | Select this check box if you want to enable free disk space monitoring. |
Free disk space threshold | Set the threshold value for Free disk space (MB). If the value exceeds the specified range, the system will trigger an alarm or warning according to the action selected in the Threshold action field. |
Threshold action | Indicates whether the Threshold parameter is set to OK, warn, or alarm if agent log file size threshold monitoring is active and the log file crosses the user defined threshold. |
Autoreset | Select this check box if you want to automatically reset free disk space monitoring after the threshold is triggered. |
To Add, Modify, and Remove the configurations | |
Add to List | Click this option for adding the various configuration information that you provided. Click this option for adding each of the configuration details that you specified, such that you see the SQLAgentLog details under List - SQLAGENTLOG Monitor Settings at the end of the dialog box. |
Modify Selection | Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this option to modify details. |
Remove from List | Select the items added earlier and click this option to delete that item from the list of configured objects and the clear the details provided in the earlier fields. |
