Microsoft SQL Server


This topic provides information about configuring the Microsoft SQL Server by using Central Monitoring Administration.

On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Solution and Monitoring Profile set to Microsoft SQL Server, and the Monitor Type set to Microsoft SQL Server, provide the following details:

Field

Description

SQL Server instance names (RegEx)

Specify the name of the SQL Server instance that you want to configure for monitoring. To discover all the instances enter .* in the field. Multiple configurations can be set. One for each server (or groups of servers), this field is used as a key for the configuration list. Use the Add to List, Modify Selection, and Remove from List buttons for adding, modifying, or removing configurations.

Database Filtering

Filtering type

Specify the filtering type for the database filtering.

  • None to select all available databases for filtering.
  • Include only the databases mentioned in the SQL Server databases field.
  • Exclude all the databases mentioned in the SQL Server databases field.

SQL Server databases

Specify a comma-separated list of the relevant database names to either include or exclude from filtering.

Configure User Credentials

General user mode

Select this check box if you do not want to store the Admin credentials in the PCONFIG.

Admin credentials

User Name

Specify a valid username with admin credentials to connect to the server. For more information on Administrator privileges see Configuring-a-SQL-Server.

Password

Enter a valid password for the admin user.

Confirm Password

Re-enter the password for the admin user.

 

Grant Admin privilege to this login

Select this check box if you want to grant Admin rights to the monitoring user. This field is valid only when the General user mode is disabled.

Monitoring user credentials

User Name

Specify a monitoring username (will be created if necessary). For more information on User privileges see  Configuring-a-SQL-Server.

Password

Enter a valid password for monitoring.

Confirm Password

Re-enter the monitoring user password.

 

Grant login to MS SQL Server

Select this check box if you want to grant login rights to the monitoring user. This field is valid only when the General user mode is disabled.

Add this login to MS SQL Server

Select this check box if you want to add the login credentials to the MS SQL Server database. This field is valid only when the General user mode is disabled.

Configure Advanced Settings

SQL Server Agent monitoring

By default, PATROL for Microsoft SQL Server does not automatically monitor the SQL Server Agent. Select On or Off to enable or disable the SQL Server Agent monitoring.

Filegroup and file space monitoring

Select On or Off to enable or disable the File group and file space monitoring.

Replication monitoring

Select On or Off to enable or disable the Replication monitoring.

Monitor SQL Server error log

Select this check box to enable Error Log monitoring (ERRORLOG). If this option is selected default monitoring will be done on error log. For setting advanced options for Error Log monitoring see SQL-Server-Error-Log.

Monitor SQL Server Agent error log

Select this check box to enable Agent Log monitoring (SQLAGENT.DAT). If this option is selected default monitoring will be done on agent log. For setting advanced options for Agent Log monitoring see SQL-Server-Agent-Log.

To Add, Modify, and Remove the configurations

Add to List

Click this option for adding the various configuration information that you provided. Click this option for adding each of the configuration details that you specified, such that you see the SQL Server details under List - Monitoring Configuration at the end of the dialog box.

Modify Selection

Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this option to modify details.

Remove from List

Select the items added earlier and click this option to delete that item from the list of configured objects and the clear the details provided in the earlier fields.
