Local servers


You can define the monitoring criteria in policies and then apply them to the PATROL Agents. When you modify a policy, all the changes are automatically pushed to the PATROL Agents on which the policy is already applied. 

When a monitoring policy is applied to a PATROL Agent, the device or server that hosts the Agent is automatically added to the list of monitored devices.

On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Profile set to Local Server and the Monitor Type set to Exchange local monitoring, provide the following details:

Enter the Exchange user account that is used to access the Exchange server, directory, user mailboxes, and messaging subsystems in the following format: domain\username.

  • Verify that this account meets the following requirements:
  • Member of domain user account

  • Exchange View Only Organization Management
  • Full mailbox access permissions to the Exchange mailbox

Password

Enter a valid password.

Confirm Password

To confirm, enter the password again.

Mailbox

The Exchange mailbox account is used to connect to the Exchange server, gather information about private and public folders, and send and receive email messages. 

This mailbox must be associated with a local Exchange mailbox store.

Top mailboxes

Number of mailboxes to monitor

Select the number of mailboxes you want to monitor. The maximum number of mailboxes you can select for monitoring is 50. 

Identify by

Select the one of the following for identifying the top mailboxes:

  • Messages count
  • Message size

Top folders

Number of folders to monitor

Select the number of folders you want to monitor. The maximum number of folders you can select for monitoring is 50.  

Identify by

Select the one of the following for identifying the top folders:

  • Messages count
  • Message size

Top senders

Number of senders to monitor

Select the number of mail senders you want to monitor. The maximum number of senders you can select for monitoring is 50.  

Identify by

Select the one of the following for identifying the top senders:

  • Messages count

Data collection period (min)

Select the data collection period in minutes. The maximum time you can select for collecting data is 1440 minutes.

Top receivers

Number of receivers to monitor

Select the number of mail receivers you want to monitor. The maximum number of mail receivers you can select for monitoring is 50.

Select the one of the following for identifying the top receivers:

  • Messages count
  • Message size

Data collection period (min)

Select the data collection period in minutes. The maximum time you can select for collecting data is 1440 minutes.

Roundtrip

Internet

RoundTrip Internet monitoring measures the response time for delivery between an Exchange server and a foreign mail server. Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Target mail server: Enter the DNS name of the foreign mail server. You can use either the full DNS name associated with the mail server or the name of the organization to which the mail server belongs to.
  • Send interval (min): Select the send interval time in minutes. The default value is 5 minutes. The maximum time that you can select for collecting data is 7200 minutes.
  • Warn after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the warning alert. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for warning alert is 7200 seconds.
  • Alarm after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the alarm. The default value is 90 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for setting the alarm is 7200 seconds.
  • Non delivery report string: Enter the string you want to search in the returned NDR message.

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.

Client

RoundTrip client monitoring measures the response time for delivery between an Exchange client, and an Exchange server. Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Client host name: Enter the host name of the client, which has log in access to the Exchange Server and MAPI(Messaging API) installed on it.
  • Domain user credentials: Enter the following details:
    • User Name: Enter the domain and user name in the following format: domain\username.

      Note: The domain and user name should be a member of the local administrator group on the client machine.

    • Password: Enter the password.
    • Confirm Password: To confirm, enter the password again.
  • Send interval (min): Select the send interval time in minutes. The default value is 5 minutes. The maximum time that you can select is 7200 minutes.
  • Warn after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the warning alert. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for warning alert is 7200 seconds.
  • Alarm after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the alarm. The default value is 90 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for setting the alarm is 7200 seconds.
  • Attachment size (KB): Select the attachment size (in Kilobytes) included with the mail. The default value is zero. The maximum size that you can select is 20 Kilobytes.
    After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.
  • Enable the Device mapping check box to enable the device mapping for the configured client to server RoundTrip sessions. The configured client will be considered as a device.

    If you are disabling this option, all the configured client to server sessions will be consolidated within the monitored Exchange server device level.

Server

RoundTrip server monitoring measures the response time for delivery between Exchange servers that are running PATROL for Microsoft Exchange Servers. Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Target mail server: Enter the DNS name of the remote exchange server in your organization.
  • Partner mailbox: Enter the mailbox used by the PATROL on the target exchange server.
  • Send interval (min): Select the send interval time in minutes. The default value is 5 minutes. The maximum time that you can select is 7200 minutes.
  • Warn after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the warning alert. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for warning alert is 7200 seconds.
  • Alarm after (sec): Select the time in seconds after which you want to set the alarm. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for setting the alarm is 7200 seconds.
  • Attachment size (KB): Select the attachment size (in Kilobytes) included with the mail. The default value is zero. The maximum size that you can select is 20 Kilobytes. 

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.

Watch user

Watched user list

Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Mailbox user: Enter the Exchange user name.
  • Suspect mail monitor: Enable suspect mail monitor check box to create suspect mail monitor.

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.

Administration

Monitor log

Enable one or more of the following product components. Enabled product components will be logged in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory:

  • MSEXCHMapidata: The MDEBUG(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHE2E: The DDEBUG(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • Server roundtrip: The RDEBUG(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • Internet Roundtrip: The IE2DEBUG_*.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • Client Roundtrip: The RDEBUG(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHCDO: The MSEXCHCDO_Debug.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHInstall E2k: The I2KDEBUG(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • Roundtrip Events: The EventDebug_*.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHLDAP: The LDAP_DEBUG.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHRdTrackLog: The MSEXCHTrackLog_Debug.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHListGroup: The MSEXCHListGroup_Debug.TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
  • MSEXCHCmdlet: The MSEXCHCmdlet(yyymmdd).TXT log file will be saved in %PATROL_HOME%\bin directory.
