Server performance is slow when running PATROL for Exchange Servers
If Exchange Server performance degrades when you are running PATROL for Exchange Servers, first check for error messages in the system output window or in the following parameters.
- Exchange\ServerColl
- Storage Groups\StorageGroupsColl
- Exchange Server Health\ServerHealthColl
The following table provides one of the possible cause for the error:
# | Possible cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
1 | Polling periods have been significantly reduced. Shorter polling periods increase PATROL's workload and can impact performance. The default polling period is 10 minutes for most parameters. | Determine the default polling period for any collector or standard parameter by checking the parameter properties dialog box or the product online Help. Return the polling period to its default value or a value higher than the current setting. |
2 | Discovery cycle has been significantly reduced. Shorter polling periods increase PATROL's workload and can impact performance. The default discovery cycles for most parameters is 10 minutes. | Determine the default discovery cycle for the application class by checking the application class properties dialog box. Return the discovery cycle to its default value or a value higher than the current setting. |
3 | The number of top mailboxes and top folders has been increased. By default, PATROL monitors the top five mailboxes and public folders. Monitoring additional folders or mailboxes can increase PATROL's workload and impact performance. | Decrease the number of mailboxes and folders you are monitoring. |
4 | PATROL for Exchange Servers is using too many system resources. | Verify that the PATROL for Exchange Servers processes are using an appropriate amount of resources. All PATROL for Exchange Servers processes match the pattern MSEXCH*. |
