2.5.00.01: Fix Pack 1 for version 2.5.00

Changing the default regular expression used for extracting fields on IT Data Analytics

On IT Data Analytics 2.5.00, during data collection, if the records (or events) in the data are too lengthy (or contain too many characters), data collection slows down. A lengthy record slows down the time taken by the default regular expression to detect fields, and this affects the data collection speed.

This fix pack provides you the capability to change the default regular expression used for extracting fields automatically (name=value pairs in the data) on IT Data Analytics. To enable this capability, you need to install the fix pack on the machines hosting PATROL for IT Data Analytics and all the standalone Collection Agents. Downloading the fix pack

To download the fix pack

1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

2. Go to the Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose. If necessary, use the Profile list to select a different profile. 

7. From the Component View (the default view), in the Filter Products text box under Products, type part or all of the product name (TrueSight IT Data Analytics) and press Enter, or click Go.

   Note

   Only the product components entitled for the licenses you own will be displayed.

8. From the filtered list, click TrueSight IT Data Analytics to obtain the fix pack files.
9. In the pop-up window, select the appropriate platform and click Go.
   
10. Click the Patches tabs, and select the check boxes next to the files to download.
    The following table lists the fix pack files for each platform available on EPD.
    The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline. Click on this message for details.
    This macro generates standalone content. As a consequence you need to make sure to use a syntax that separates your macro from the content before and after it so that it's on a line by itself. For example in XWiki Syntax 2.0+ this means having 2 newline characters (a.k.a line breaks) separating your macro from the content before and after it.
11. Click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download if the connection drops.
       This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
12. To go back to the product listing page to download other product files, or to logout from EPD, click the << Back to Product List link that is displayed to the top-right of the pop-up window.

Before you begin

Ensure that version 1.8.0.45 of JRE is installed on the machines hosting PATROL for IT Data Analytics.

Installing the fix pack

Install the fix pack on all the machines hosting PATROL for IT Data Analytics.

Based on your specific environment, install the fix pack by using one of the following methods:

• If you are using PATROL Agent 10.0.00 and TrueSight Presentation Server 10.5.00
• If you are using PATROL Agent earlier than 10.0.00 and TrueSight Presentation Server earlier than 10.5.00

If you are using PATROL Agent 10.0.00 and TrueSight Presentation Server 10.5.00

1. Import the fix pack installation file downloaded from the EPD website as a single monitoring solution.
   For more information, see Importing a single monitoring solution.

2. Create a deployable package for the IT Data Analytics component, for version 2.5.00.01 (containing the fix pack).

   For more information, see Creating-a-deployable-package.

   Additional information

   • While creating the deployable package, you do not need to provide the PATROL Agent related information.
   • After providing the package details, click Save to deploy and install the package in the next step.
3. Deploy and install the package created to the PATROL Agents. For more information, see Deploying and installing packages to PATROL Agents.

If you are using PATROL Agent earlier than 10.0.00 and TrueSight Presentation Server earlier than 10.5.00

1. Import the fix pack installation file downloaded from the EPD website as a single monitoring solution.
   For more information, see Importing a single monitoring solution.

2. Create a deployable package for the IT Data Analytics component, for version 2.5.00.01 (containing the fix pack).
   For more information, see Creating-a-deployable-package.

   Additional information

   • While creating the deployable package, you do not need to provide the PATROL Agent related information.
   • After providing the package details, click click Save and Download. In the next step, you need to copy the downloaded package to silently install the fix pack.

3. Install the fix pack by running the silent installation file available under the the bmc_products directory. The user permissions required for installing the fix pack are same as those used for installing the PATROL Agent.

Verifying the fix pack installation

View the deployment and installation status of the package installed (which included the fix pack file). For more information, see Viewing the deployment and installation status.
