The following features are available in version 1.0.00 of the BMC PATROL Knowledge Module (KM) for IT Data Analytics:

Data collection

You can use the BMC PATROL KM for IT Data Analytics to configure Collection Agents on target hosts (where data resides) to collect data and send it to the Collection Station for further indexing and searching purposes. Collection Agents are useful in the following scenario:

If you are already operating in a BMC PATROL environment
If you have a company policy that restricts direct communication from the Collection Station to the target host.

You can configure Collection Agents using PATROL Configuration Manager (PCM) or the BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration Console.

Collection Agents can be used to collect various kinds of machine data both locally and remotely for one-time or continuous monitoring.

Monitoring Collection Agents

You can use the various application classes and parameters to monitor Collection Agents configured. You can monitor the following aspects:

Status of the Collection Agent
Amount of data sent to the Collection Station
Amount of memory used by the Collection Agent
Number of data collectors configured using the Collection Agent
Connection status from the Collection Agent to the Collection Station
Version of the Collection Agent

Associating Collection Agents with collection profiles

While configuring a Collection Agent, you can provide the name of the Collection profile existing in the BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics product. By doing this, the Collection Agent gets associated with the collection profile specified and further data collectors are automatically created.

Downloading the installation files

Obtain the appropriate installation files from the BMC Software Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website to start the installation process.
