Use cases

As an MQ administrator, monitoring MQ environment is a key task for considering the impact on the external messaging applications and the overall robustness of IBM MQ. PATROL for IBM MQ Series provides the metrics that depict the overall health of the message queuing infrastructure.

Consult the following use cases for information on how to achieve value with PATROL for IBM MQ Series:

Monitor the queue managers
The Queue Managers can accept, process, and deliver messages across a variety of different platforms.

Monitoring the queues
The queues are associated with a queue manager. The queue is an area, where the messages reside before being processed. Some queues see a constant flow of messages route through them and monitoring such queues is critical for applications.

Depth metrics
Ensure that message processing is taking place as expected and at an acceptable speed.

Dead-lettering
Dead-lettered queues occur when the messages cannot be processed and routed to their intended location. For example, non-existing recipient, the recipient is unavailable, the recipient’s mailbox is full, and so on.

Tracking the channels and listeners
Monitor the channel and listener status in the MQ environment.
