Entering custom targets

This procedure describes how to enter custom notification targets for PATROL objects (applications, instances, or parameters).

Before you begin

To send a custom notification, you must have configured the PATROL KM for Event Management to send custom notifications and specified a notification script that calls the custom system you are using. For more information, see Configuring-custom-notification.

To enter a custom target

  1. Access the host KM menu commands as described in Accessing KM Menu Commands.
  2. Choose the KM menu command Event Management > Alert Settings > Notification Targets > Custom.
  3. Select the appropriate sub-menu command:
    • Local Targets ANY STATUS - when the PATROL object(s) generate an alert of any type, a notification is sent from the local machine
    • Local Targets INFO - when the PATROL object(s) generate an INFORMATION alert, a notification is sent from the local machine
    • Local Targets WARN - when the PATROL object(s) generate a WARNING alert, a notification is sent from the local machine
    • Local Targets ALARM - when the PATROL object(s) generate an ALARM alert, a notification is sent from the local machine
    • Local Targets ESCALATED -Notifications for an alert of any status are escalated. If you want to escalate notification, BMC Software recommends that you use a third party paging product, such as Alarm Point. For more information, contact BMC Software Support.
    • Remote Targets ANY STATUS - when the PATROL object(s) generate an alert of any type, notification targets are forwarded to the notification server, which sends the notification

    • Remote Targets WARN - when the PATROL object(s) generate a WARNING alert, notification targets are forwarded to the notification server
    • Remote Targets ALARM - when the PATROL object(s) generate an ALARM alert , notification targets are forwarded to the notification server, which sends the notification
  4. From the next sub-menu command, select the PATROL object (application, instance, or parameter) for which you are configuring notification.
  5. From the SET EVENT MANAGEMENT ALERT VARIABLE dialog box, enter the custom targets. Separate multiple custom targets by commas.
  6. The dialog box displays the name of the configuration variable that stores the custom targets.
  7. To save your changes, click Accept.

After you enter custom targets, you should test the notification to make sure the notification is received when the alerts occur. For more information, see Testing notification.
