Configuring paging notification

The PATROL KM for Event Management does not actually perform paging. You must have paging software that you can call from a command-line or via email.

Before you begin

Before you configure paging notification, determine the following:

  • Which remote agents to monitor
  • The notification servers (primary and backup) for each remote agent
  • The command (script) used to send paging notifications. For more information, see Using notification scripts.
  • Which application instances or parameters to create notifications for
  • The data to include with the paging notification (optional)
  • Who to send the paging notification to (targets)
  • Where to place notification rules (remote agents or notification servers)

To configure paging notification

  1. Configure the notification servers and specify the default notification script as described in Configuring notification servers.
  2. Configure the remote agents to send notification events to the notification servers as described in Configuring remote agents.
  3. Select the PATROL object (applications, instances, or parameters) that you want to create notifications for.
  4. Make sure notification is enabled for the PATROL object. For more information, see Enabling-and-disabling-notification-and-recovery-actions.
  5. Determine where the notification will be sent from (the local agent or the notification server). For more information, see Specifying-where-to-initiate-notifications.
  6. Supply the paging notification targets (recipients). For more information, see Entering-paging-targets.
  7. Test the notification as described in Testing notification.
  8. Reword the notification message as needed. For more information, see Rewording notification messages.
