Configuring custom notification

In addition to paging and email, you can configure a custom notification. For example, you may have a proprietary application that you want to send alerts to or use to perform recovery actions.

Before you begin

Before you configure custom notification, you must determine the following:

  • Which remote agents you want to monitor
  • The notification servers (primary and backup) for each remote agent
  • The command that you will use at the notification server to send your custom notifications
  • The data that you want to include with your custom notification

The PATROL KM for Event Management includes a number of tokens when it sends a NOTIFY_EVENT to the notification server. You can use this data in your custom notification. For more information, see NOTIFY_EVENT.

To configure custom notification

  1. Configure the notification servers as described in Configuring notification servers.
  2. Configure the remote agents to send notification events to the notification servers as described in Configuring remote agents.
  3. Specify the custom notification script used by the notification server to generate custom notifications. For more information, see Specifying-a-notification-script or Using notification scripts.
You should test this script from the command line to verify that it functions as you expect.
  4. Specify the custom notification targets as described in Entering-custom-targets

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
