Creating and managing buffer  pools

A buffer pool exists to improve database system performance. With PATROL for DB2 UDB, you can create more than one buffer pool for a database. The KM displays icons representing existing buffer pool objects in the database object window. From a buffer pool icon you can access the buffer pool menu, which contains a Correlate Parameters command. Open the buffer pool object window to view the parameters. Click on the icon that represents the database to complete the following tasks related to buffer pools.

To create, alter, or delete a buffer pool

  1. Right-click on the database icon for the selected database and select Database Administration > Bufferpool Mgmt.
  2. select one of the following commands:

Note

You cannot drop a default buffer pool, although you can alter its attributes.

To correlate parameters for a buffer pool

When you perform this procedure, the KM collects the values of the specified buffer pool parameters from all nodes configured in the db2nodes.cfg file. The KM then displays the correlation values in a chart or text report in an output window.

  1. Right-click on a DB2 buffer pool icon and select Correlate Parameters.
  2. From the list of parameters, select one or more parameters to correlate.
  3. Select either the CHART or REPORT format option.
  4. Click OK.
