Cataloging databases in the system  directory

The DB2 system database directory contains database access information for all databases managed by the DB2 DBM instance. A system catalog entry is automatically created in the system directory when a DB2 database is created. You can specify a new database alias name to create a new catalog entry for a database and even maintain multiple aliases.

With PATROL for DB2 UDB, you can catalog databases, uncatalog databases, and recatalog databases using the following procedure.

To catalog, uncatalog, or recatalog a database

  1. Right-click the DB2EEE instance icon and select Database Administration> Directory Mgmt > Databases.
  2. select one of the following commands:
    • Catalog Database
    • Catalog DCS Database
    • Catalog Global Database (catalogs a DCE-type database)
    • Uncatalog Database
    • Uncatalog DCS Database
  3. Enter the required information.

    Note

See the online Help for further information.

  If a problem occurs

When you are cataloging a database, the alias name must be unique. You cannot catalog a database with an alias that has already been cataloged. To verify that an alias name has not been used, view the databases already cataloged in the system directory by using the following procedure.

To View Databases Cataloged in the Database Directory

  1. Right-click on the DB2EEE instance icon and select Database Administration> Directory Mgmt> Database.
  2. From the submenu, select one of the following commands: .
    • List DB Directory
    • List DCS Directory

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
