Managing DB2 database configurations and operations


The PATROL for DB2 UDB database icon menu provides the commands that enable you to manage the activities of your DB2 databases, including starting and stopping the database, viewing and updating the database configuration file, running database reports, and processing ad hoc queries with the SQL Processor command.

To start and stop a db2 database

Note

When you activate a database by using the Activate Database command, the startup overhead occurs before the first application connects to the database. When you start database services by using this command, you must use the Deactivate Database command to shut down the database.

  1. Right-click on the DB2 database icon and select Database Administration > Database Mgmt.
  2. select one of the following commands:
    • Activate Database
    • Deactivate Database

To update the database configuration

  1. Right-click on the DB2 database icon and select Database Administration > Configuration Mgmt.
  2. select one of the following commands:
    • Show DB Configuration
    • Update DB Configuration
    • Reset DB Configuration

To perform an ad hoc query using the SQL Processor

  1. Right-click on the database icon and select SQL Processor.
  2. Select one of the following options:
    • Commit
    • Rollback
    • Process SQL statement
  3. If you select Process SQL Statement, enter a valid SQL statement.

To run a database report

  1. Right-click on the DB2 database icon and select Reports > General or Reports > Summary.
  2. select one of the following reports:
    • General reports
    • Buffer Pool Info
    • Connection Info
    • Database Activity Info
    • General Info
    • I/O Activity Info
    • Lock Info
    • Logging Activity Info
    • Sort Activity
    • SQL Statement Activity
    • Table Activity Info
    • Applications Info
    • Tablespace Info
    • Summary reports
    • Tablespace Parameters
    • Bufferpool Parameters

If a problem occurs

If the message Not Collected appears instead of the information that you expect for a report, verify that the appropriate monitor switch is set to ON. See Report dependencies on DB2 monitor switch settings for the appropriate switch settings.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
