Creating and managing buffer pools
A buffer pool exists to improve database system performance. You can use PATROL for DB2 UDB to create more than one buffer pool for a database. You can also alter the storage characteristics of an existing buffer pool and drop buffer pools.
To create, alter, or delete a database buffer pool
- Right-click on the DB2 database icon and select Database Administration > Bufferpool Mgmt.
- Select one of the following commands:
- Create Bufferpool
- Alter Bufferpool
- Drop Bufferpool
- When creating or altering a buffer pool, specify the size of the buffer pool and select either the Extended Storage or Not Extended Storage option. Icons representing all existing bufferpool objects are displayed in the database object window in the console. Double-click a buffer pool object to display the parameters associated with buffer pools.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
