Downloading and installing version 9.0.00.01
This section provides the information that you need to successfully download and install the BMC PATROL for DB2 Universal Database version 9.0.00.01.
Preparing for installation
You must install the patch on the following computers:
- hosts that are running the PATROL Agent for Microsoft Windows
- hosts that are running the PATROL Agent for UNIX®
- hosts that are running the PATROL Console for Microsoft Windows
- hosts that are running the PATROL Console for UNIX®
Before you extract and install the patch, complete the following steps:
- Stop the PATROL Agent.
- Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Delete all BMC PATROL files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge, PATROL_HOME/lib/psl, and PATROL_HOME/<OS_TYPE>/bin directories.
Downloading the installation utility and the patch
If you have previously downloaded other BMC products, you might have an older version of the installation utility on your hard drive. To ensure that you are using the correct version of the installation utility for this patch, use the following instructions to download the installation utility.
To download the installation utility and patch
- Create a temporary directory in which to place the downloaded files.
- Download the latest installation utility from the location appropriate for your operating system into the temporary directory. If you are viewing this technical bulletin online, you can download the installation utility by clicking the following BMC FTP directory:
For Windows, ftp://ftp.bmc.com/pub/patrol/patches/COMMON_INSTALL7.5.64/Windows/ins_WINDOWS_7564.zip
For UNIX, ftp://ftp.bmc.com/pub/patrol/patches/COMMON_INSTALL7.5.64/UNIX/ins_ALL_7564.tar - Download the patch file from the appropriate location for your operating system into the same temporary directory as the installation utility. If you are viewing this technical bulletin online, you can download the patch by clicking the following BMC FTP directory:
For Windows, ftp://ftp.bmc.com/pub/patrol/patches/P_FOR_DB2UDB/Windows/9.0.00.01/PSO_ALL_900001.zip
For UNIX, ftp://ftp.bmc.com/pub/patrol/patches/P_FOR_DB2UDB/Unix/9.0.00.01/PSO_ALL_900001.tar - Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:
For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_7564.zip.
For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_7564.tar.
The contents of the files are extracted into a subdirectory called bmc_products. - Extract the patch files for your operating system as appropriate:
For Windows, double-click PSO_ALL_900001.zip.
For UNIX, enter tar -xvf PSO_ALL_900001.tar.
The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory. - Complete the installation procedure described in “Installing the patch”.
Installing the patch
After you have downloaded the installation utility and patch files and extracted them to the bmc_products subdirectory, follow these steps to install the patch:
- From the bmc_products subdirectory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:
- For Windows, double-click setup.exe.
- For UNIX, run setup.sh.
- Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Type of Installation page is displayed.
- On the Select Type of Installation page, select Custom.
- On the Select System Roles page, select the following system role:
- Computers hosting a PATROL Agent — Managed System
- Computers hosting any PATROL Console — Console Systems
- Computer hosting a Console Server — Common Services
- On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for DB2 Universal Database 9.0.00.01.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
