Loading the KM component

After installing PATROL for DB2 UDB and completing the necessary setup, you must load the appropriate component (KM) into the PATROL console to begin using it to monitor your DB2 systems. You will load either the DB2 UDB component or the DB2 UDB EEE component.

Upon loading, the KM automatically enters into a discovery phase and begins populating the console with the discovered objects.

You can also preload the PATROL KM through the PATROL Agent.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that the appropriate DB2 product is already installed and running in your environment.
  • If you are upgrading your KM installation, complete the migration process before loading.

To load the KM component

  1. Start PATROL.
  2. In the PATROL console main window, select File > Load KM.
  3. In the Load KMs dialog box, select one of the following KM components to load:
    • DB2UDB.kml (for DB2 Universal Database Extended Edition and for DB2 UDB ESE single partition environments)
    • DB2UDB_EEE.kml (for DB2 Universal Database Enterprise-Extended Edition and for DB2 UDB ESE multi-partition environments)

      Warning

      Note

Load both the DB2UDB.kml and DB2UDB_EEE.kml KM components only if you intend to monitor hosts running both DB2 Universal Database Extended Edition applications and DB2 Universal Database Enterprise - Extended Edition applications.

  4. Click Open

    Warning

    Note

For a list of files included in the KM, see Knowledge Module filesets.

To manually configure the PATROL Agent to automatically preload the KM

  1. In the workstation that has the PATROL Agent loaded, open the config.default file by using any text editor.

    Warning

    Note

As a precautionary measure, create a backup copy of the config.default file associated with the system that houses the PATROL Agent before making any changes to the file.

  2. Locate the /AgentSetup/preloadedKMs configuration variable and add a line with the name of the component file.
See the following table to determine which filenames to add:
The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
  3. Save the config.default file and exit the text-editing session.
  4. Shut down and restart the PATROL Agent to automatically load the KM.

    Warning

    Note

To operate properly, the KM residing on the PATROL Agent must be at the same version level as the KM residing on the PATROL console.
