Installing by using the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console


  1. Allocate a Windows based host/VM with following minimum requirements:
    • Allocated VM/host resources must match the numbers provided for the VSM KM
    • OS: Windows 2003R2 or later
  2. Install and activate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management v9.0 Server.
  3. Install and activate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management v9.0 Integration service (proxy server).
  4. Install the following BMC PATROL components:
    • BMC PATROL v9.0.00 Agent
    • BMC PATROL v3.1.00 for Virtual Servers
    • BMC PATROL v1.1.00 for Cisco Nexus
    • BMC PATROL v1.1.00 for Converged Infrastructure
    • PATROL for Hardware by Sentry Software v1.8.00
    • PATROL for EMC Disk Arrays by Sentry Software v3.0.00
  5. Install JRE 1.6.xx in %PATROL_HOME%\jre.
  6. Start Patrol Agent.
  7. Using PATROL console load the following KMs:
    • CUM.kml
    • PCZ.kml
    • VSM.kml
    • MS_HARDWARE_SENTRY1.kml
    • SEN_EMC.kml
  8. Make the following KMs pre-loaded (using PCONFIG or PCM):
    • CUM.kml
    • PCZ.kml
    • VSM.kml
    • MS_HARDWARE_SENTRY1.kml
    • SEN_EMC.kml
  9. Verify that the UCS Manager is reachable from the allocated host on the relevant port for the protocol used (HTTP or/and HTTPs).
  10. Verify that you have valid credentials for the following:
    • UCS Manager console
    • vCenter
    • Cisco NX6100 series devices configured with the UCS Manager
  11. Configure the Cisco UCS Manager KM and enable the configuration for the VSM and Cisco Nexus KMs by enabling the relevant check boxes. 

    Warning

    Note

    Use the UCS Manager's hostname or IP as a name for monitored
     environment.

  12. Let the system run for few minutes to allow for discovery of the Cisco UCS topology on the patrol console.
  13. If the UCS is automatically configured,then skip to step 14.
     The blade is automatically associated to the ESX server. 

    Warning

    Note

    If a blade is not associated to ESX server, you need to associate it manually.

  14. Login to the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management admin console and use the PATROL adapter to import the configured PATROL agent for monitoring on BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management.
    1. Verify that all the expected monitor types are imported and enabled for monitoring.
    2. Verify that all devices appear under the server container in the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management operations console.
