Configuring email notification by using the PATROL Console

You can configure email notification settings to send out an email with detailed information about an alert (when a parameter goes into an alarm) to designated email IDs.

To configure email notification on Windows platform

Before you begin

Before you configure email notification settings, perform the following steps:

  1. You must download, install, and configure version 2.6.2 or later of the BLAT utility, which is used to send emails through the command-line interface. This utility is available at www.blat.net.
  2. You must set up a profile in BLAT by using the blat -install smtpName senderID retryTimes port profileName Username Password command

where,

  • smtpName refers to the DNS name or the IP address of the computer hosting the SMTP service through which email messages are to be sent.
  • senderID refers to the sender’s email ID from where an email notification must be sent in the event of an alarm generation.
  • retryTimes refers to the maximum number of times to try to send an email before timing out.
  • port refers to the port number of the SMTP server. By default, the port is 25.
  • profileName refers to the name with which to identify the profile that you want to set.
  • Username refers to the user name that you must provide (to send emails) if your SMTP server requires authentication.
  • Password refers to the password that you must provide (to send emails) if your SMTP server requires authentication.

Example: blat --install mail.bmc.com xyz@bmc.com 3 25 MTM patrol password

To add or modify an email notification

  1. Right-click the BPPM Self-Monitor icon and select KM Commands > Configure Email Notification to display the Configure Email Notification dialog box.
  2. In the Administrator Email-ID box, specify a comma-separated list of email IDs of the recipients who must receive an email notification detailing the alert when a parameter goes into an alarm state.
  3. In the BLAT Profile box, specify the profile name that you used while setting up a profile in BLAT by using the blat -install command.
  4. In the BLAT Path box, specify the path where the BLAT executable is located on your computer. For example: C:\DevTools\blat307\full\blat.exe
  5. Click Accept to save your changes and then click Close to close the dialog box.
  6. Click Cancel to exit without saving any changes.
  7. You can also modify information such as the list of email IDs, the BLAT profile name, and the BLAT path that you provided earlier. To do this, navigate to the Configure Email Notification dialog box, modify the information that you want to change, and click Accept to save your changes.

Note

  • If your SMTP server requires an SSL encryption to send email messages, then you must install stunnel and configure it separately to work together with the BLAT utility.
  • If your PATROL Agent is running in a clustered environment, then BLAT must be configured on all the failover cluster nodes.
