Number Of Virtual Processors (VirtualProcessors)

This parameter displays the number of virtual processors allocated to the AIX SPLPAR partition. In an AIX micropartitioned environment, a logical partition may have one or more virtual processors using the assigned processing resource. Virtual processors share the assigned processing resource and supports concurrent job streams. The number of virtual processors configured for a partition is less than or equal to the number of physical processors assigned in the shared pool.

A logical partition in the shared processing pool has virtual processors as per assigned processing capacity. By setting the number of virtual processors, the maximum processing capacity of an uncapped partition is controlled.

For example, If you have a partition with 0.50 processing units and one virtual processor, the partition cannot exceed 1.00 processing units, because it can only run one job at a time, which cannot exceed 1.00 processing units. However, if the same partition with 0.50 processing units was assigned two virtual processors and processing resources were available, the partition could use an additional 1.50 processing units.
