Configuration details

On the Monitor Configuration page, click Addico_add.png to add a new monitor configuration, or select an existing monitor configuration and click Editico_edit.png to update it.

Before configuring the Hardware Management Console, verify that the requirements listed in the prerequisites section are met.

On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Profile set to HMC, and the Monitor Type set to Hardware Management Console, provide the following details:

Field

Description

HMC Configuration

HMC Host Name

Specify the HMC name to monitor remotely.

SSH Port Number

Specify the SSH port number of the HMC to be monitored. The default port number is 22.

User Name

Specify the username.

Authentication

Select the authentication type:

  • Password-Based
  • Key-Based

Password Based Authentication

Password

If you have selected password-based authentication type, specify the password for authentication.

Key Based Authentication

Public Key File Path

Specify the entire path of the public key file.

For example:

(UNIX) /home/patrol/id_rsa.pub

(Windows) C:\patrol\id_rsa.pub

Note: For Windows, path must not contain space character. BMC recommends to use C:\patrol\keys directory to store key files.

In case your directory has space character use short path instead complete path. For example: C:\PROGRA~1\ instead of C:\Program Files.

Private Key File Path

Specify the entire path of the private key file.

For example:

(UNIX) /home/patrol/id_rsa

(Windows) C:\patrol\id_rsa

Note: For Windows, path must not contain space character. BMC recommends to use C:\patrol\keys directory to store key files.

In case your directory has space character use short path instead complete path. For example: C:\PROGRA~1\ instead of C:\Program Files.

Passphrase

Specify the passphrase to access the public and private key.

Advanced VIOS Monitoring Configuration

Monitor Host Bus Adapter (NPIV)

Select this checkbox to enable monitoring of Host Bus Adapter (NPIV).

Monitor Shared Ethernet Adapters

Select this checkbox to enable monitoring of Shared Ethernet Adapters.

Managed System Filtering

Managed Systems to Filter

Enter a comma separated list of names of the managed systems that you want to include or exclude from monitoring. Input may also be a regular expression pattern. By default all the managed systems are included for monitoring.

For example: Managedsystem1,Managedsystem2

Note: If the managed system is filtered, the managed system will not appear below the HMC hierarchy. If the Managed system is already discovered, it will be removed from the hierarchy.

Filter Type

Select Include or Exclude to include or exclude the managed systems.

LPAR Monitoring Details

Monitoring Profile

Select the type of monitoring.

  • Standard - This option enables monitoring of CPU, Memory, FileSystem and Network monitor types.
  • Capacity - This option enables monitoring of CPU, Memory, FileSystem, Network, Swap, Disk, Virtualization monitor types.

SSH Port Number

Specify the SSH port number of LPARs to be monitored. This port will be common across all LPARs. The default port number is 22.

Note: BMC recommends to restart PATROL Agent if the port number is modified.

User name

Specify the username.

Authentication

Select the authentication type:

  • Password-Based
  • Key-Based

Password Based Authentication

Password

If you have selected password-based authentication type, specify the password for authentication.

Key Based Authentication

Public Key File Path

Specify the entire path of the public key file.

For example:

(UNIX) /home/patrol/pubkey.txt

(Windows)

For example:

(UNIX) /home/patrol/id_rsa.pub

(Windows) C:\patrol\id_rsa.pub

Note: For Windows, path must not contain space character. BMC recommends to use C:\patrol\keys directory to store key files.

In case your directory has space character use short path instead complete path. For example: C:\PROGRA~1\ instead of C:\Program Files.

Private Key File Path

Specify the entire path of the private key file.

For example:

(UNIX) /home/PATROL/id_rsa

(Windows) C:\PATROL\id_rsa

Note: For Windows, path must not contain space character. BMC recommends to use C:\patrol\keys directory to store key files.

In case your directory has space character use short path instead complete path. For example: C:\PROGRA~1\ instead of C:\Program Files.

Passphrase

Specify the passphrase to access the public and private key.

LPAR Filter Details

Logical Partition to Filter

Enter the names of the logical partitions that you want to include or exclude from monitoring. Input may also be a regular expression pattern. By default all the logical partitions are included for monitoring.

  • To separate two logical partitions use %##% string. For example:
    .*lpar$%##%lpar1%##%lpar2%##%lpar3
  • To identify logical partitions based on managed system, use Managed System Name:::Logical partition name. For example:
    .*lpar$%##%lpar1%##%lpar2%##%Managedsystem1:::lpar3

Filter Type

Select Include or Exclude to include or exclude the logical partitions.
