Downloading BMC Installation Utility

BMC Installation Utility is packaged with the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite 9.6.00 and BMC TrueSight Operations Management 9.6.

The solution is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd. To use the website, you must register and set up a user name and password.

To download installation Installation Utility from the EPD website

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

     

    Note

    On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the BMC PATROL Installation Utility using either of the following methods:
Using Component View 
  1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  2. Click Go.
  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  4. In the Version: list, select 9.6.00, and click Go.

  5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager: Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing section.
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
Using Licensed Products View 
  1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
  2. Locate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
  3. Expand BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite 9.6.00 to show the available components.
  4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.00 to show the available files.

  5. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

Note

You can extract the installation utility files first and then any product files. By doing this, the bmc_products directory is created, and the files are extracted to this directory.
