9.5.00.01: patch 01 for BMC Installation Utility 9.5.00 (CVE-2014-2958)

A strong password encryption scheme has been implemented for BMC Installation Utility.

This enhancement is supported for both silent and manual installation of PATROL.

Downloading the patch

This section provides the information that you need to download the BMC Installation Utility version 9.5.00.01 from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

If you do not already have a user name and password that allow you to fully access the BMC EPD website, you can register for a user name and password on the site.

If you do not have a current license for the product, contact a BMC sales representative by calling 800 793 4262 .

To download the patch from the EPD website

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded file. On Microsoft Windows systems, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure.
    The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image must not be in a directory deeper than two
    levels into the directory structure.
  2. Log on to https://webapps.bmc.com/epd with your BMC support credentials.
  3. In the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, accept the terms, and click Continue.
  4. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 5.
  5. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose, and click the Licensed Products tab
  6. Based on your license entitlement, scroll down, select Performance Management, and click BMC PATROL Installation Utility. Alternatively, use the Filter Products: control in the tab to search for BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  7. Click the Patches tab.
  8. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Servers and expand its entries to show available version numbers.
  9. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Servers 3.4.00 to show the available products/components.
  10. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.5.00 to download the patch

  11. Based on the operating system, select the check boxes next to the files and documents that you want to download

  12. Click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    • Download (FTP): Places the selected items in an FTP directory, and sends you an email that contains credentials and FTP instructions required to download the product files.
    • Download Manager: Opens the EPD Download Manager page that enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download if the connection drops.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.

Installing the patch

BMC Installation Utility does not require to be installed.
