Installing BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch component


Before you install the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch component, consider the following:

  • Before implementing BMC Intelligent Ticketing 2.0 in the production environment, verify the patch in your development environment.
  • You must first install the BMC Remedy ITSM Suite patch component and then the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch component.
  • You must first install the supported version of BMC ProactiveNet, including the Base installation and the Extension installation. Perform the Extension installation on the computer on which BMC Remedy IT Service Management (BMC Remedy ITSM) resides.
  • The BPPM patch component installer, automatically takes backup of old files, copies new files, restarts IBRSD service and cell. 

The following topics provide instructions for installing the BMC Intelligent Ticket 2.0 patch component for BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management. 

Before you begin

  • Set BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME as environment variable.
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME% 

  • Set JAVA_HOME as environment variable.
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %JAVA_HOME% 

To install BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch contents on Windows platform

  1. Login to the BPPM server as an Administrator.
  2. Using the command prompt, go to location where you have copied the installation files.
  3. Using the command prompt, go to the <install_dir>\BMC Intelligent Ticketing 2.0 Patch\02_BPPM Patch\Windows folder that contains the installation files. 
  4. Verify if BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME is set as environment variable in the install-config.xml
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME% 

  5. Verify if the JAVA_HOME is set as environment variable.
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %JAVA_HOME% 

  6. Run the setup batch file using the following command:

     

    setup.bat <AR Server Name> <AR User Name> <AR User Password>  <AR Server Port>


    If the password is blank  enter “”

  7. To verify if the installation was successful:
    • Refer to the install_log.txt in the following location:

      <install_dir>\BMC Intelligent Ticketing 2.0 Patch\02_BPPM Patch\Windows\install_log.txt
    • Verify if the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch patch is registered in SHARE:Application_Properties form.

  8. If the installation fails, due to permission or path issues:

    1. Restore original files from BackupFiles folder. 
    2. Re-run the setup batch file.  

    If the installation fails due to any other issue, apply the patch manually. See, To install BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch contents manually.

  9. Proceed with the post-installation tasks.

To install BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch contents on UNIX platform

  1. Login to the BPPM server as an Administrator.
  2. Go to the <install_dir>/BMC Intelligent Ticketing 2.0 Patch/02_BPPM Patch/<platform namefolder that contains the installation files.
    This patch is available for Solaris and Linux. 
  3. Provide write permissions to the files and folders.
  4. Verify if BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME is set as environment variable in the install-config.xml
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME% 

  5. Verify if the JAVA_HOME is set as environment variable.
    To verify, run the following command:

    echo %JAVA_HOME% 

  6. Run the setup.sh file using the following command:

    setup.sh <AR Server Name> <AR User Name> <AR User Password>  <AR Server Port>


    If the password is blank  enter ‘””’ (double quotes enclosed in single quotes)

  7. To verify if the installation was successful: 
    • Refer to the install_log.txt in the following location:
      <install_dir>/BMC Intelligent Ticketing 2.0 Patch/02_BPPM Patch/<platform name>/install_log.txt
    • Verify if the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch patch is registered in SHARE:Application_Properties form.

  8. If the installation fails, due to permission or path issues:

    1. Restore original files from BackupFiles folder.

  9. Proceed with the post-installation tasks.

To install BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management patch contents manually

  1. Take a backup of:
    1. ibrsd_orphaned_root_cause.mrl file present in the <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\server\etc\<cell name>\kb\ rules folder.
    2. ibrsd_propagate_causal_events.mrl file present in the <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\server\etc\<cell name>\kb\rules folder.
    3. DefaultMapping.map file present in the<BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\integrations\ibrsd\conf folder.
    4. gateway.ibrsd file present in the <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME> \server\etc folder.
  2. Copy:
    1. ibrsd_orphaned_root_cause.mrl file from <install_dir>\cell folder to <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\server\etc\<cell name>\kb\rules folder.
    2. ibrsd_propagate_causal_events.mrl file from <install_dir>\cell folder to <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\server\etc\<cell name>\kb\rules folder.
    3. DefaultMapping.map file from <install_dir>\other folder to <BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\integrations\ibrsd\conf folder.
    4. gateway.ibrsd file from <install_dir>\ other folder to<BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME>\server\etc folder.
  3. Restart the IBRSD service.
    To restart the IBRSD service on UNIX computer:
    1.  Go to directory $BMC_PROACTIVENET_HOME/integrations/ibrsd/bin folder. 
    2. Run the following commands:

      ./ibrsd.sh stop 

      ./ibrsd.sh start

  4. Stop the cell. Run the following command from BMC Proactivenet PW Commands console:

    mkill –n {CELL_NAME}

  5. Compile the cell. Run the following command from BMC Proactivenet PW Commands console:

    mccomp –n {CELL_NAME}

  6. Start the cell. Run the following command from BMC Proactivenet PW Commands console:

    mcell –n n {CELL_NAME}

  7. Copy the versionInfo.arx from installer directory to BMC AR System server.
  8. Import the versionInfo.arx file on BMC AR System server using the  BMC Remedy Data Import utility.

Post-installation tasks

  • After the installation completes successfully, in the DefaultMapping.map file, update the company settings and other customizations according to the original backed up file.
