Step 1: Get the API key or the JWT

Get the JSON Web Token (JWT). For more information, see Access and authentication for the REST API.

This is required for creating the custom class and sending events to BMC Helix Operations Management.

Step 2: Create the custom class and custom slots

Run the class API to create custom event classes and associated custom slots. For more information, see Managing-events-with-REST-APIs.

By default, BMC Helix Operations Management also provides you a list of default event classes and associated slots.

Step 4: (Optional) List the custom class and custom slots

This step is optional. Run the classes API to list event class details to reconfirm that the custom class and custom slots are created. Note that the JWT token is required to run this API.

For more information, see Managing-events-with-REST-APIs.

Step 5: Configure the third-party application to send events

Configure your third-party application to be able to send events with custom class and custom slots.
