This is the latest documentation for BMC Helix Network Management (formerly known as Netreo).

Metric unit prefix policy

Although BMC Helix Network Management uses decimal (base 10) prefixes for all of its value displays (e.g., MB, GB, TB, etc.), many of the calculations it makes actually use binary (base 2) math.

The following calculations are used for the respective data values displayed in BMC Helix Network Management's user interface.

Statistic TypeCalculation for Unit Multiples
MemoryBase 2 (base value divided by 1024)
Bandwidth (network throughput)Base 10 (base value divided by 1000)
DiskBase 2 (base value divided by 1024)
Resource ThroughputBase 2 (base value divided by 1024)
StorageBase 2 (base value divided by 1024)
