BMC Helix Network Management Network Configuration
This section provides settings to change the local IP address and network variables of your BMC Helix Network Management appliance. Any changes made here or in the two subsections below must be saved using the Save Network Configuration button. Be aware that changing the IP address of an appliance that is already licensed may invalidate that license. If you need a new license because you want to change your appliance IP address, contact a BMC Helix support representative to be issued a new license.

Note: If you have deployed BMC Helix Network Management in a high availability (HA) configuration, these settings cannot be edited here, as they are determined by the HA node configuration. You must delete your HA configuration to reactivate these settings.

Timezone Setting
Here, you can change the local timezone for BMC Helix Network Management. If you use an NTP server (see below), this will adjust the UTC time to your local time.

NTP Server Setting
If there is an NTP server that you prefer to use to manage your server system time, enter its IP address or hostname in the field provided, and BMC Helix Network Management will synchronize its server system time to UTC time using that server. Use the timezone setting above to then adjust the UTC time to your local time.

Proxy Server Setting
If you use a proxy server to control your local network's access to the internet, you can configure BMC Helix Network Management to use that proxy here. Enter the IP address of the proxy server and the port BMC Helix Network Management will be required to connect on. If your proxy server also requires a username and password, enter those in the fields provided and then select the authentication protocol used by the proxy. When the settings are configured correctly, click the Save Proxy Configuration button, and BMC Helix Network Management will access the internet using your proxy.

The following BMC Helix Network Management functions utilize the proxy server when configured:

  • Incident management (action methods, incident acknowledgment by email, etc.)
  • ServiceNow CMDB
  • Licensing services/BMC Helix Network Management call-home tools (licenses, updates, etc.)
  • BMC Helix Network Management Cloud Library
  • Communication traffic between BMC Helix Network Management and any connected service engines.
