Update the on-premise appliance to the latest minor version release

This procedure is for internet connected BMC Helix Network Management appliances, not for the offline update process. For offline updates, please contact a BMC Helix support engineer for assistance.

Online update only

Your BMC Helix Network Management appliance will need access to the Internet in order to check for software updates. If your BMC Helix Network Management appliance cannot access the Internet, please contact BMC Helix Support to arrange for your software update using another method.

Incremental software updates are continuously available for BMC Helix Network Management. Only users with the SuperAdmin access level may perform software updates.

To update BMC Helix Network Management to the latest minor version or maintenance release follow the steps below.

  1. When an update is available, the update icon will appear in the quick-access icon group in the top right of the BMC Helix Network Management UI.

  2. Click the update icon and then click the Upgrade Now button to open the BMC Helix Network Management Update page. Alternatively, you could click the Release Notes button to read the release notes before updating.Update Icon Options.png
    • The BMC Helix Network Management Update page can also be opened by navigating to Administration > System > Updates from the main menu.
  3. When the BMC Helix Network Management Update page opens, BMC Helix Network Management will check with the BMC Helix Network Management update servers to determine if a newer version is available.

  4. A message will be displayed showing you what version of BMC Helix Network Management you are currently on, the new version available and asking if you would like to update now.
  5. Click the Yes button to begin the update process.
    • Note that software updates can take a few minutes. Please be patient during this process. If you would prefer to update later, you can navigate away from the update page at any time before committing to the update.
  6. Once BMC Helix Network Management is finished updating, a message will be displayed indicating a successful update.
  7. You're finished.

BMC Helix Network Management can be configured to automatically update itself to the latest maintenance release, if desired. See Turn On Automatic Maintenance Updates for BMC Helix Network Management.

With automatic updates turned on, you will only have to take action to install major and minor version releases.
