Installing and managing connectors

A connector is a container that facilitates data collection and consumption from log sources. It provides a runtime environment that enables communication with BMC Helix Portal.

As an administrator, download and install the connector to enable the connection between BMC Helix Log Analytics and the log source.

Best practice
You can use a single connector for multiple collection policies. However, for better performance, we recommend that you use separate connectors for each collection policy.

The log connectors that BMC Helix Log Analytics provides are based on the open-source Fluentd technology. For more information on Fluend, refer to the Fluentd documentation.

The following types of connectors are available:

  • Linux connector (RHEL9, 8, and 7): Download and install these connectors to collect data from applications running on Linux environments.
  • Linux connector (CentOS 7.9): Download and install these connectors to collect data from applications running on CentOS environments.
  • Windows connector: Download and install these connectors to collect data from applications running on Windows environments.
  • Docker connector: Download and install these connectors to collect data from container-based applications.
