Enabling or disabling downsample

With downsample, you prioritize transmitting metrics data that is most relevant for specific purposes. For instance, you might only need data at a lower frequency or aggregated values (mean, min, max, and most recent value) for monitoring on dashboards. In contrast, detailed data might be more crucial for real-time inferencing on the edge in-depth analysis or training machine learning models.

Before you begin

Make sure at least one device profile is assigned to the node is configured for downsampling.

To start sending raw metrics

The raw data metrics are helpful for various purposes, such as debugging issues, training machine learning models, or gaining a deeper understanding of data before writing rules.

  1. On the main page of BMC Helix Edge, select Device management > Nodes.

  2. On the Sending Raw Metrics page, identify a node ID transmitting only the downsampled and aggregated metrics data (is not sending the raw metrics) and then select Action > Edit Raw Metrics.
    image-2024-8-12_13-18-12.png
  3. In the Edit Raw Metrics panel,  click the image-2024-5-21_14-44-1.pngicon, select the date and time for sending the raw metrics data with downsampled metrics data, and then click Start.
    image-2024-8-12_13-23-2.png
When you start this option, the node sends the raw and downsampled metrics data until the selected date and time. After the duration expires, the option automatically sends only the downsample metrics data as configured in Configuring aggregation and downsampling interval

To stop sending raw metrics

The downsampled data metrics are relevant for specific purposes, such as real-time monitoring. when you enable this option, the node stops transmitting unnecessary data that might not be immediately valuable.

  1. On the main page of BMC Helix Edge, select Device management > Nodes.
    image-2024-8-12_13-21-22.png
  2. On the Sending Raw Metrics page, identify a node ID to stop sending raw metrics and select Action > Stop Raw Metrics.
    image-2024-8-12_13-25-56.png
  3. In the confirmation message panel, click Stop to confirm the message.
    image-2024-8-12_13-26-30.png
When you enable this option, the node stops sending raw metrics from the specified date and time. It only transmits the downsampled metrics data as configured in Configuring aggregation and downsampling interval.
