Viewing the metering dashboard

The Metering dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your license entitlement usage statistics for various components, including Messages, Machine Learning Training, and Contextual Data. The dashboard displays detailed information about the following license entitlement components:

  • Messages include the number of messages processed and the associated license consumption.
  • Machine learning training shows the amount of machine learning training conducted and its corresponding license usage.
  • Contextual data provides statistics on the usage of contextual data and its impact on license consumption.

Filter By Node

The Filter by Node list is present on the top-left of the toolbar. You can choose one or more nodes to verify the license entitlement usage statistics, including Messages, Machine Learning Training, and Contextual Data. The nodes are differentiated with color codes at the bottom of the Messages graph.

The following are the filter options available:

Options

Description

All

This option displays data aggregated from the selected BMC Helix Edge environment nodes for the selected message type, machine learning training, and data.

Selected

This option displays specific nodes you select from the list allowing you to view the statistics for the selected message type, machine learning training, and data.

IOT Messages Type

The IOT Messages Type list filters the message type for the selected ML training jobs.

The following are the filter options available:

Options

Description

Metric Count

This option provides a simple count of metric messages for selected nodes.

Metric IoT Messages Count

This option offers a more granular view, counting individual messages related to IoT metrics for selected nodes for selected nodes.

Command Count

This option gives a general count of command-related messages for selected nodes.

Command IoT Message count

This option looks more detailed, counting individual messages linked to IoT commands for selected nodes.

ML Training Minutes

The ML Training Minutes list displays the machine learning training tasks conducted with their status. The system factors the Completed and the Canceled tasks as license usage.

The following are the filter options available:

Options

Description

Completed

This option displays the total time spent on ML training jobs that finished successfully for selected nodes.

Canceled

This option displays the time spent on ML training jobs that were intentionally stopped before completion.

Terminated

This option displays the time spent on ML training jobs that were prematurely ended by the system or an external factor, for example, due to an error or resource issue.

Failed

This option displays the time spent on ML training jobs that encountered errors and did not complete successfully.

Panels in the Metering dashboard

The following table describes the panels in the Metering dashboard:

Messages

A message is a metric or command sent between IoT devices and a service. The message can be sent from an IoT device to the service (for example, a sensor sending a temperature reading) or from a service to the IoT device (for example, the service sending a configuration setting to an IoT device). Each message has a limited size of 100 bytes. If an instruction or piece of information is too long to fit in one message, it gets split into multiple messages.

In this illustration, the Total Message label on the left side of the Dashboard pane displays the messages received by the system from IoT devices over a period. On the right side of the Dashboard pane, the y-axis represents the total messages received, and the x-axis represents the total message timeframe. The legend items at the bottom of the chart are visual representations of selected nodes.

The graph displays the metrics count for selected nodes, each with a unique color code.

ML training time

The ML Training Time dashboard tracks customers' time to train their models on BMC's standard training instance. It tracks resource usage and bills based on the training time. The dashboard also provides additional information about completed versus canceled, terminated, or failed training, allowing you to make inferences.

In this illustration, the Total Training (Completed + Canceled) label displays the time spent on training machine learning models for a period, including the canceled sessions. The y-axis represents the training time, and the x-axis represents the timeframe. The legend items at the bottom of the chart are visual representations of selected nodes.

The graph displays the total time spent to complete the ML training for the selected node with a unique color code.

Contextual data ingested

Contextual Data refers to information that provides additional context or meaning to other data points. It includes location data, user demographics, sensor readings, or other relevant details that enhance understanding. You can track the contextual data generated and transmitted to understand usage patterns and optimize data collection processes.

In this illustration, The Total Data label is on the left side of the Dashboard pane. The graph displays the contextual data transmitted to the Subscription Services for the selected period. On the right side of the Dashboard pane, the y-axis represents the Contextual Data Ingested, and the x-axis represents the timeframe. The legend items at the bottom of the chart are visual representations of selected nodes.

The graph displays the total contextual data ingested for selected nodes with unique color codes.

Each legend item has a unique color to highlight a node from a specific data series. See Using-interactive-features-in-the-chart-panel.
