Accessing and navigating the BMC Helix Edge user interface


An overview of the initial steps for users to access and navigate the BMC Helix Edge user interface.

Logging on to BMC Helix Edge

Access the BMC Helix Edge platform through BMC Helix Portal.   

Before you begin

  • Have a compatible web browser.
  • Get valid user credentials from the BMC Helix user administrator. 

To log on to BMC Helix Edge

  1.  Open a compatible browser.
  2. In the search bar of the browser, enter the URL as https://<namespace-name>.<domain_name.com>.
    For example: https://neo.dsmlab.bmc.com

    • <namespace-name> is neo.
    • <domain_name.com> is bmc.com.

    Be sure to use https:// as a secure connection protocol.

  3. Enter the user name and password in the Username and Password fields, respectively.
    The browser displays the BMC Helix Portal landing page with BMC Helix applications.

  4. On the BMC Helix Portal landing page, click the BMC Helix Edge Platform tile.
    The browser takes you to the BMC Helix Edge portal.


Navigating the BMC Helix Edge user interface

The BMC Helix Edge user interface provides a seamless and efficient interaction for users aiming to manage and optimize their IoT devices and data at the edge of their network.

The user interface offers the following features and functionalities:

  • Manage devices
  • Leverage machine learning
  • Create rules and workflows
  • Monitor and configure service health
  • Administer user roles

BMC Helix Edge displays the default page. The system displays the following page when you choose an instance from the BMC Helix Dashboards list.

Main menu

Description

Dashboards

The dashboard is a central hub for data insights and license management. You can build a dashboard, combine data from different sources into reports, and view the usage of license entitlements from various sources.

Device Management

The Device Management menu provides tools for managing and monitoring devices within the BMC Helix Edge environment. With this menu, you gain visibility into your devices' health and status, perform administrative tasks, and ensure the smooth operation of your IT infrastructure.



The Device Management menu contains the following sub-menus

  • Profiles
    This submenu manages device profiles. You can use these profiles to group devices based on shared characteristics, such as device type, location, and vendor. To learn more, go to Managing-device-profiles.
  • Devices
    The Devices submenu is the main section for viewing and managing devices. This option lets you view the list of devices, their properties, status, and other relevant information. You can also perform actions on individual devices or groups of devices, such as discovering new devices, updating device configurations, and collecting data.   • Nodes
    This submenu refers to the nodes deployed on the managed devices. You can view their status, monitor their connectivity, and manage their configurations. To learn more, go to Managing Nodes.

Intelligence

The Intelligence menu is a central hub for leveraging data and advanced analytics within BMC Helix Edge. It lets you gain deeper insights into your systems, automate tasks, and proactively address potential issues.



The menu contains the following sub-menus:

  • Rule Editor
    This option lets you create and manage rules to trigger actions or alerts based on specific conditions or events. You can use these rules to automate tasks such as sending notifications or executing scripts. Go to Rules-management to learn more about rules. 
  • Machine Learning
    Machine Learning sub-menu is where you find the tools and interfaces for working with machine learning models.
    • You can create, train, and deploy ML models for anomaly detection, classification, regression, and time series analysis tasks.
    • You can manage existing models, monitoring and updating their performance as needed. Go to Machine-Learning-functions.
  • Workflow Builder
    This submenu provides a visual or code-based interface for creating and managing workflows. By chaining together actions and decisions, workflows can automate complex tasks. To learn more about workflows, navigate to Building-a-workflow
  • Events
    This menu allows you to view and manage events generated by the system or your defined rules. You can filter, search, and analyze events to gain insights into system behavior and identify potential issues. To learn more about workflows, navigate to Building-a-workflow.

Administration

The Administration menu provides tools to manage users, roles, and system configurations within the BMC Helix Edge environment. It ensures the secure and efficient operation of the BMC Helix Edge platform while giving administrators the control they need to manage access and maintain system health.



The menu contains the following sub-menus:

  • Role Management
    This submenu manages user roles and permissions within the BMC Helix Edge system. You can create new roles, assign permissions, and assign users' roles. With this submenu, you can control access to different features and functionalities within the environment based on user responsibilities. Go to Managing-user-roles-and-permissions.
  • User Management
    This submenu manages user accounts and their BMC Helix Edge platform access. You can create, edit, and delete user accounts, manage user credentials and authentication settings, and assign users to roles and groups. Go to Managing-user-roles-and-permissions.
  • Service Health
    This submenu provides insights into the health and performance of the BMC Helix Edge platform itself. It might display system metrics, performance statistics, and any error logs. You can use the Service Health option to identify and troubleshoot the platform's operation issues. Go to Service-health-and-configuration-management.
  • Service Configuration
    This submenu probably allows you to configure various settings and parameters that control the behavior and functionality of the BMC Helix Edge platform. These settings include settings related to data collection, alerting, integration with other systems, and overall platform behavior. Go to Configuring-service-specific-settings.
