Copying a rule

With this feature, you copy the refined rule for one node and apply the same rules to another node. 

You also: 

• Apply consistent rule configurations across multiple nodes, reducing the need to re-create similar rules for different devices.
• Copy rules to streamline the process, especially when rules share common conditions or actions.
• Duplicate and customize rules based on specific node requirements.
• Apply an update or change to a rule universally by modifying the original rule, and the changes are automatically reflected in all copied instances.

Before you begin

• Identify the rule that you intend to copy. Make sure that the rule is already created and configured for a specific node.
• Clearly understand the target node or device to apply the copied rule. 
• Verify that the rule you plan to copy is compatible with the target node and that the conditions and actions defined in the rule align with the new node's requirements.
• Understand the configuration details and specifications of the target node. 
• Confirm that you have the necessary permissions to copy rules and apply them to different nodes.
• Understand the purpose of copying the rule to another node. 

To copy a rule to another node

1. On the BMC Helix Edge page, select Rules and workflows > Rule Editor.
2. In the left pane of the Rule Designer page, select a node to design a rule.
3. In the Configure Nodes pane, click the Rules tab. 
   BMC Helix Edge displays the list of rules panel:
   
4. In the Rules tab:
   1. From the list, click the rule to copy.
   2. Click Copy to initiate the copy process.
      BMC Helix Edge displays the Copy rule panel with a specific target node or device to apply the copied rule.
       
   3. In the Target pane, select the appropriate node from the available options.
   4. Click Copy.

By copying rules for another node, you improve the manageability and scalability of your rule configurations in BMC Helix Edge, contributing to an efficient and streamlined operational workflow.
