Monitoring and investigating situations

BMC Helix AIOps correlates events collected from multiple sources into situations. These sources could be infrastructure, applications, network resources, and monitoring solutions from different vendors. The events from the same or different hosts are correlated based on their occurrence, message, signature, topology, or a combination of these factors.

Situations created based on the event policies in BMC Helix Operations Management are known as policy-based situations. Situations created by using AI/ML algorithms are known as ML-based situations. BMC Helix AIOps can analyze hundreds of thousands of raw events in near real-time to create ML-based situations.

Some of the major benefits of ML-based situations are:

reduce_event_noise_icon.gif Advanced noise reduction, faster MTTR, better service visibility, and impact identification beyond service context
  • The AI/ML algorithm uses an event signature to analyze topological and temporal relationships to create situations in the context of the impacted services.

  • BMC Helix AIOps uses advanced configuration settings to determine the event aggregation window and groups situations into primary, related, and similar situations.

  • Correlation of events from multiple, topologically connected services that impact each other provides a broader view of the issue. Identification of root cause outside the service boundaries accelerates root cause detection.

  • BMC Helix AIOps leverages the generative AI capabilities of BMC HelixGPT to provide a step-by-step remediation plan for a situation. Wherever applicable, a code wizard provides a script that can be used to automate a remediation step.

  • The connection with BMC HelixGPT generates actionable insights from logs available in BMC Helix Log Analytics and other supported external data sources such as Splunk Enterprise and ElasticSearch.

  • The algorithm analyzes, ranks, and displays the topmost situations.

  • By correlating events across multiple interconnected services, situations help identify root causes that might impact several services, ensuring a more accurate and efficient method of resolution.

  • A cross-launch link from the situation to the impacted service helps with the root cause analysis.
