Defining a service
To add dynamic content to a service
You can add dynamic content to a service while either creating it or editing it.
- Click Services and then click Create New Service.
- In the Define Service pane, specify the service name, for example, Storage.
- (Optional) Assign a kind to the Storage service.
By default, a service is created as a business service. For more information about service kinds, see Business services, technical services, and business applications. - (Optional) Select service criticality from the list to mark the importance of the business service.
By default, no default criticality is assigned to a service. - Click Add Dynamic content.
- Select a blueprint, for example, Blueprint Host to Storage System, from the list.
For information about blueprints, see Understanding-service-blueprints. Select one or more namespaces, key for namespaces, host, or values for any other CI attributes that you have defined as variables when defining the blueprint.
- (Optional) Preview the dynamic content.
- Click Save.
The added blueprint appears in the Dynamic Composition section of the Define Service pane. - Click Save and Close.
The Storage service shows the count of blueprints that you added as part of the dynamic content.
To add static content to a service
- Click Services and then click Create New Service.
- In the Define Service pane, specify the service name, for example, Network.
- (Optional) Assign a kind to the Network service.
By default, a service is created as a business service. For more information about service kinds, see Business services, technical services, and business applications. - (Optional) Select service criticality from the list to mark the importance of the business service.
By default, no default criticality is assigned to a service. - Click Add Static content.
- Click Add CIs to Service to add CIs from the list.
Select one or more CIs to add the CIs to the service.
When you select only one CI, by default, the Include Related CIs check box is selected, which indicates that all the related CIs of the selected CI will also be added. If you don't want to add related CIs, clear the check box.For example, add a Windows host as the CI to the Network service.
- Click Close to view the static CIs added as part of static content.
- (Optional) Change the display to Organic or Hierarchic view.
In the organic view, nodes are placed close to their adjacent nodes, thus saving space. While, in the hierarchic view, the nodes are distributed into layers, which facilitate the identification of dependencies and relationships among the nodes. - Click Save and Close.
The Define Service pane shows the static CIs added in the Static Composition section. - (Optional) In the Define Service pane, click View Content at the bottom of the pane and view all content or only direct connections.
- Click Save and Close.
The Network service shows the count of CIs that you added as part of the static content.
To edit dynamic content of a service
- From the Services page, search and select a service you want to edit.
- From the action menu
, select Edit Service.
- From the Edit Service page, click a service to view the Define Service pane.
- (Optional) In the Dynamic Composition section, click Add Dynamic Content to add another blueprint as the dynamic content.
- Click Edit
for an existing dynamic content entry to edit it.
- (Optional) Select one or more namespaces, key for namespaces, host, or any other custom configuration.
- Save the changes.
To edit static content of a service
- From the Services page, search and select a service you want to edit.
- From the action menu
, select Edit Service.
- Click the service to view the Define Service pane.
- In the Static Composition section, click Edit Static content.
- (Optional) To add related CIs to an existing CI, right-click it and select Add related CIs.
- Click Add CIs to Service to add CIs from the list.
Select one or more CIs to add the CIs to the service.
When you select only one CI, by default, the Include Related CIs check box is selected, which indicates that all the related CIs of the selected CI will also be added. If you don't want to add related CIs, clear the check box.- Save the changes.
To delete dynamic content from a service
- From the Services page, search and select a service you want to edit.
- From the action menu
, select Edit Service.
- Click the service to view the Define Service pane.
- In the Dynamic composition section, click
to delete a blueprint.
- Save the changes.
To delete CIs from the static content of a service
- From the Services page, search and select a service you want to edit.
- From the action menu
, select Edit Service.
- Click the service to view the Define Service pane.
- In the Dynamic composition section, click Edit Static content.
- Right-click a CI from the hierarchy and select Delete.
- Save the changes.
