Application tier status and attributes

The color of a tier at a specific time reflects the most severe status from any of the application servers that are associated with it. Likewise, that status color in the Application View timeline reflects the most severe status from any of the tiers in the application at the specified time.

The status is based on at least one of the following criteria:

  • Associated server has a metric that triggered an event. For details about event thresholds, see Application-server-events-reference.
  • Associated server is part of a transaction that has latency, errors, or both.

Application View elements

The Application View window contains the following elements:

  1. Application list—List of monitored applications
  2. Date picker—Date of monitored data that is currently displayed
  3. Time slider—Specific time segment that is currently displayed
  4. User tier(Integrated with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring) When associated with an Application Watchpoint, tier displaying a color-coded status about latency and errors for the end user
  5. Application tiers—Color-coded statuses reflecting threshold breeches, latency, errors, or a combination on a monitored application server. Application tiers include Web tier, App tier, and Business tier.
Database tiers are not monitored with BMC Application Diagnostics Agents; data is based on exit point information.
  6. Application server—Associated application server or servers for the selected tier. Each server name is color coded to reflect its status.

User tier description

The following table describes the meaning of the values and colors for the selected time segment of the User tier:

Description

Color and status

The following colors and status messages are displayed:

  • Blue (No Data). No data was collected, usually because integration with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring is not implemented or configured
  • Green (No Problems). Percentage of errors or slow pages did not exceeded defined thresholds
  • Yellow (Attention). Percentage of errors or slow pages exceeded the defined tolerating threshold
  • Red (Error). Percentage of errors or slow pages exceeded the defined frustrated threshold

Errors

Percentage of transactions that had errors

Slow Pages

Percentage of transactions that exceed the latency thresholds

Avg Latency

Average latency of transactions, in milliseconds

The following table describes the meaning of the values and colors for Application tiers:

Description

Color and status

The following colors and status messages are displayed:

  • Blue (No Data). No data was collected, or no application servers were associated with the tier
  • Green (No Problems). Application servers that are associated with the tier did not exceeded defined thresholds
  • Yellow (Attention). At least one application server that is associated with the tier had at least one metric that exceeded the defined tolerating threshold
  • Red (Error). At least one application server that is associated with the tier had at least one metric that exceeded the defined frustrated threshold.
Application servers that have at least one latency violation or error are also displayed in red.

Hit Rate

Number of requests per second sent to the server

Success Rate

Number of transactions that completed without latency violations or errors
