Encrypting passwords for silent upgrade


The adop-silent-option-windows-upgrade.txt and adop-silent-option-linux-upgrade.txt require encrypted passwords. The Maintenance Tool enables you to create an encrypted password that you can paste into the options files.

To encrypt a password for a silent installation

  1. Start the Maintenance Tool utility.

    Show steps.

    You can run the Maintenance Tool in a graphical user interface or from the command line.

    To run the Maintenance Tool in a graphical user interface

    • (Windows) Go to the serverInstallationDirectory\utilities directory, and run the ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.cmd file.
      The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC Application Diagnostics.
    • (Linux) Go to the serverInstallationDirectory/utilities directory and run the ./ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.sh file.
      The default installation directory is /opt/bmc/BMC_Application_Diagnostics.

    To run the Maintenance Tool from the command line

    • (Windows) From the serverInstallationDirectory\utilities folder, run ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.cmd with the -silent option.
    • (Linux) From the serverInstallationDirectory/utilities directory, run ./ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.sh with the -silent option.

    To learn about command-line options

    To learn about available command-line options, use the -help or -? option when you run the command.

    Examples:

    • ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.cmd -help
    • ./ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.sh -?
  2. Click the Encrypt tab.
  3. In the Password and Confirm Password boxes, type your password.
  4. Click Encrypt.
  5. Copy and paste the encrypted password into the options file for your silent installer:

    • (Windows) adop-silent-option-upgrade.txt
    • (Linux) adop-silent-option-upgrade

    For example, encrypt the MySQL root password and copy the output, DES\:c8e0fe3ab90cb90e0def21a18dd8454e, to the following parameter:

    -J db_root_password_enc=DES\:c8e0fe3ab90cb90e0def21a18dd8454e

Note

You can use the -encrypt option to encrypt a password through the command line. For example, enter the following command:

ADOPServerMaintenanceTool.cmd -silent -encrypt -encrypt -password=<password> -confirm_password=<password>

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
