Performing the Agent for .NET upgrade
This topic presents upgrade procedures for the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET from version 2.0 or 2.1.x to 2.5. You can upgrade each Agent using the upgrade wizard, or you can upgrade the Agent using the silent upgrade procedure, and deploy the silent upgrade to several computers.
When you run the setup.exe installation wizard on a system with a previous version of the product, the wizard automatically switches to upgrade mode
Before you begin
Download the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET installation files from the Electronic Product Distribution site.
You must have administrative privileges for the application server that will be monitored.
To upgrade the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET
- Copy and extract the files to a temporary directory on the target computer.
- Launch the installation wizard by double-clicking setup.exe.
- To confirm that you want to upgrade, click Yes.
The utility installs the current version with the same values as the earlier installation. - On the Agent Information page, provide the following information and then click Next:
- Tier Type. Select the type of tier this Agent represents in the Application View: App, Business, Web. The default value is App.
- Application Display Name. If the application name is missing for the Agent, enter a name for the application to be displayed in the BMC Application Performance Management Console. The application name is required and it is case insensitive.
- After the upgrade is complete, click Finish.
Behavior of Agent and Agent policy after upgrade
Upgrading BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET does not change the Agent policy files. Agent policy files are upgraded with BMC Application Diagnostics Server and contain the new features for the Agents. The Agent for .NET continues to use the same Agent policy file as before the upgrade.
