Performing the server upgrade silently

This topic presents silent upgrade procedures for the BMC Application Diagnostics Server from version 2.0 to 2.1 or 2.1.01, or from 2.1 to 2.1.01. You can upgrade the server components using the using the silent upgrade procedure and deploy the silent upgrade to several computers, or you can upgrade each server using the the upgrade wizard procedure.

  • If you are upgrading to version 2.1, you need to specify which server component or components you want to upgrade.
  • If you are upgrading to version 2.1.01, you run the silent installation file without configuration. Any server component or components on the computer are upgraded.

Before you begin

  • Downloadthe following upgrade files from the Electronic Product Distribution site to a temporary directory on the server computer:
    • (Windows) adop-silent-option-upgrade.txt
    • (Linux) adop-silent-option-upgrade

  • Back up the database.

    Note

    The upgrade process modifies the database schema. You will need the database backup if you want to revert to the previous version.

  • Ensure that you have completed all preinstallation tasks.
  • You must have administrative privileges on the computer where you perform the upgrade.

To select the server component to upgrade: upgrade to 2.1

  1. One the computer where you will upgrade the server or server component, use a command line to open the relevant adop-silent-option-upgrade file in edit mode.

  2. The portal and collector components are available to upgrade. Add a hash character (#) before a component that you do not want to upgrade.

    # Upgrade BMC Application Diagnostics Portal
    -A bmc_application_diagnostics_portal
    # Upgrade BMC Application Diagnostics Collector
    -A bmc_application_diagnostics_collector

    Note

    If the portal and a collector are on the same computer, then you must upgrade both components at the same time.

  3. Save and close the options file.

To upgrade the BMC Application Diagnostics Server silently: all upgrades

  1. In a command line, navigate to the \ADOPServer\Disk1 folder in the installation file structure.
  2. To run the silent upgrade, enter the following command:

    • Windows

      setup.cmd -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE=adop-silent-option-upgrade.txt

    • Linux

      ./setup.sh -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE=adop-silent-option-upgrade

 

Notes

  • The BMC Application Diagnostics Server log files are located in the following directories:
    • (Windows) %temp%\adopserver_install_log.txt
    • (Linux) /tmp/adopserver_install_log.txt
