End-to-end processes
BMC Application Diagnostics is a deep dive monitoring solution that helps users proactively diagnose application transaction issues such as slow transactions and transactions with errors. BMC Application Diagnostics is a licensed add-on of the BMC Application Management Suite and can be integrated with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring.
This topic presents the following processes:
End-to-end installation and configuration
- Download the product components.
- Install the BMC Application Performance Management Console and ensure that BMC Application Diagnostics Plug-in is enabled.
When the plug-in is enabled, the Diagnostics tab is displayed in the Console. - Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Server components: Portal and Collector.
- Configure the BMC Application Diagnostics Portal component in the Console.
- Install and configure the BMC Application Diagnostics Agents for Java or for .NET.
- (Optional) Configure and activate integrated technologies.
End-to-end application diagnostics monitoring
The following steps enable you to access the diagnostics data for applications that are monitored by the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent. You can examine transaction traces where a latency violation or an error occurs.
- In a supported browser, enter the URL of the computer on which the BMC Application Performance Management Console is installed.
- Enter your name and password to log on to the BMC Application Performance Management Console.
- In the BMC Application Performance Management Console screen, click the Diagnostics tab.
- In the main menu panel in the top left of the screen, click the component diagnostics you want to analyze: Business Transactions or Application Servers.
- To view captured traces, drill down to a specific transaction trace.
- Developers or application support personnel can examine method call stack.
End-to-end configuration for SaaS
The following steps enable service providers to offer BMC Application Diagnostics to their customers as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering. Service providers can isolate data groups and control data visibility and permissions for each customer, called a tenant or tenant organization.
- Download the product components.
- Install the BMC Application Performance Management Console and ensure that BMC Application Diagnostics Plug-in is enabled.
When the plug-in is enabled, the Diagnostics tab is displayed in the Console. - For each tenant, install the BMC Application Diagnostics Server components: Portal and Collector.
- Install and configure the BMC Application Diagnostics Agents for Java or for .NET.
- Add tenants and and tenant users.
- Associate each tenant to an BMC Application Diagnostics Portal.
- (Optional) Configure and activate integrated technologies.
