Configuring the BMC Application Performance Management console

The configuration is done via the wizard in the following 3 steps:

Step 1: Activating the component with the wizard

  1. Copy the product key from vendor-provided information and paste it in the box, and then click Proceed.
  2. Enter the following default product key, which is valid for 30 days:

    jA0EAwMCpx7+izDSB0tgyWq4P6aWYzlual+Lu8UjngHTWyX79Y6ojV11oAGYPMcMiHaANZfsY4ehQH5aoo2Qp

Activating the component manually

If the product key has expired, or if you need a permanent key for a component instance that is already deployed, you can activate the component manually by requesting a license file from BMC and uploading it via the web interface of the component.

To activate manually:

  1. Download the registration file.

    Notes

    • For newly deployed instances, on the Activation page of the setup wizard, click the link.
    • For instances that have already been activated with the 30-day product key, on the System information and licenses page, on the Action menu, click Download Registration Info.
  2. Send the registration file with your product key to BMC via email. When BMC receives your registration file and product key, BMC will send you the license file that you need to activate the product manually.

    Note

Send the registration-information file to co-tsactivation@bmc.com indicating your support contract ID and, for Analyzer instances, the number of Watchpoints. Or you can open a support request on the BMC Support site and attach the registration-information file.

  3. Upload the license file in the web interface of the component. BMC sends you this file to be uploaded on the component. The file is is ZIP format; do not unzip it. When you upload the file, the system will restart (a soft reboot).

Step 2: Specifying SSL-server-certificate properties

The SSL server certificate uniquely identifies the BMC Application Performance Management console. It is a self-signed certificate.

To use a different SSL certificate, contact BMC Software Customer Support for assistance.

  1. Accept or select to enter a custom certificate common name (CN).
  2. Accept an unlimited lifetime certificate or enter the number of days before the certificate will expire.
  3. Click Proceed.

Step 3: Creating an initial account

The initial account has Security-level access. This means that the user logging on with these credentials can access all functionality, including security features, which are invisible to non-Security-level users. Security-level users are usually responsible for handling cryptographic keys, confidential data, and other similar items, and can add other Security-level accounts to the system.

Recommendation

After setting up the BMC Application Performance Management console, it is important to create different accounts for different users of the system. Access management is based on roles (in other words, on different subsets of permissions), so you can restrict certain areas of functionality to certain users.

You create accounts via the main interface of the product — not as part of component setup.

After this step is done, a Success report is displayed.
